Ways That God Speaks to Us (Part 2) — Lisa Bevere

all right so we’ve already talked about

how God speaks through the the

scriptures we know that he also speaks

through Parables and symbolism and I

know that you’ve had so much to say on

that and I kind of want to wrap up with

[Music]

that welcome to part two of the way God

speaks I’m so excited that we’re going

to be once again joined by Rabbi Brian

to lean in and learn how God

speaks used to pray every night before I

went to sleep God I give you permission

to speak to me in the night watches oh

that’s good so I think in our culture

right now yes we’re so inundated that

maybe God might want to speak to people

through dreams and uh another thing I

found to be I have an iPad right here I

sleep with an iPad in my bed yeah I read

and I pretty much fall asleep 30 seconds

into my reading but if the Holy Spirit

Whispers something to me in the middle

of the night I off often used to think

I’d remember it I don’t but if I type it

into my iPad it it’s it’s captured I

will say sometimes it makes absolutely

no sense the next morning but there have

been more times than not that it makes

sense and sometimes it’s a solution to a

problem and I I can’t remember where I

heard it but I heard that during the day

your your brain gathers information you

see things you hear things but during

the night time your mind works as a

processor and it processes things and

the Holy Spirit is singing over you and

your scriptures are coming together when

you wake up there’s a Clarity of vision

of what you need to do and it’s just

right there so it’s a really good time

to capture it and write it down you know

the requirement for that dream state no

they call it r m rapid I movement you

that Rim sleep has to happen when you’re

at rest okay so if you’re not dreaming

you’re not resting you’re not resting

and most people sadly enough you used it

for a good thing your iPad but most of

us have that blue light in our eyes

constantly with the social media and

we’re so worried about what other people

think about us what we have followers

and yeah you almost have to because it

keeps waking you up and a lot of people

don’t ever get into sleep mode and I

always say it’s better to have your face

in the book than in your face than

Facebook because I think sometimes we’re

too busy at the night season right even

though we want to hear from God we’re

not reading his word we’re actually

reading even if we go on to read

scripture then we’re checking a

notification comes up and then we’re

checking our Facebook and our Twitter

and yeah so I think it’s important that

we have um a revelation of Isaiah 6 you

know Uzziah had just died and I love

Isaiah 6 I’m going to read from ESV it

says um you know the angels with its six

wings they were covering their face they

covering their feet and they flew the

one said to another in verse Three Holy

Holy Holy we say in Hebrew kadosh kadosh

kados to be set apart holy holy holy is

the Lord of hosts the Lord of armies it

actually is translated uh the whole

earth is full of his glory and uh you

jump down to verse number number eight

it says and I heard the voice of the

Lord saying whom shall I send and who

will go for us so it’s like you said

about not being used but God wants to

anoint a vessel that he can send um it’s

interesting though that the voice of God

uh in verse four it says the foundations

of the threshold Shook at the voice of

him who called and the house was filled

with smoke so that’s what sometimes we

get afraid of when God speaks it sounds

loud and Smokey and Smoky right yeah I

love what it says though when he begins

to tell the prophet the state of Israel

he speaks to the prophet directly in

verse 8 he says I heard the voice of the

Lord says whom shall I send who will go

for us then I said here I am send me

send me and he said go and say to this

people keep on hearing but you do not

understand you keep seeing but you don’t

perceive you have a heart uh the heart

of this people is dull and their eyes

are heavy the BL the blind and blind

their eyes lest they see with their eyes

and hear with their ears and understand

with their hearts and turn and be healed

if we don’t have eyes to see and ears to

hear it doesn’t matter how much God is

speaking he could even be yelling he

could be screaming from a Mountaintop

and we don’t have ears to hear him we

have to be in tune to the Holy Spirit

and the prophet was saying here I am but

Israel was saying you go talk to God

like they told Moses you God wanted

Israel to be Kings and Priests right and

then Moses said I wish you were all

prophets right that’s the three offices

God anointed in the Old Testament the

prophet the priest and the King God

wants to anoint us as prophets priests

and Kings who hear his voice and speak

it and he can send us but if we don’t

have eyes to see ears to hear even if we

have a dream or a vision we won’t see it

it makes no sense we don’t have Clarity

and God wants our ears spiritually open

not just the outer but the inner so okay

now you hear that a lot Kings and

Priests yes but you added the prophet in

there yes so that that Prophet yes

anointing is in desperate need right now

yes it is can hear what God is saying a

now word and speak a now word it doesn’t

negate the word of God it’s almost like

the Rama versus the logos right right it

upholds the word of God yes and um we

are called to actually I mean to desire

the most beneficial gifts yes and one of

the beneficial gifts is that I would

prophesy that I would build up other

people because tongues had to still be

interpreted

right but prophesying and prophesying is

speaking under divine inspiration from

the mind of God yeah right and so you

don’t have to tag it as I am prophesying

or th say people actually know because

they inner witness bear witness Bears

witness and sometimes and I’ve had this

happen where I’ve been in a meeting and

somebody says something out loud from

the stage that God whispered to me yes

in the morning and all of a sudden that

underscores and I’d be like oh my gosh

God was talking to me

and write it down but God actually wants

his people to prophesy which is to call

things into being that he wants to

declare the word of God over our

creation we have God’s word in our mouth

and we have the right to speak it and so

when you hear I love what you said you

might be waking up and you hear a

scripture yeah you said write it down

write it down but I’m also going to

challenge you to speak it out yes

absolutely speak it out so that begin to

prophesy that into a situation into your

marriage everything get covered

prophetic voice yeah and so when we hear

God’s word in our spirit speak it out

loud speak it out loud put it out there

arrest the atmosphere and go with it um

Audible Voice yeah Audible Voice okay so

unless you have something else you want

to say yeah no I was going to say to

tack the last thing you just said how do

you know when a word of Prophecy from

someone else is from God that’s a

question I get all the time and I teach

and this is what I teach people first of

all God has taken the spoken word theama

that God spoke from his mouth not only

to the Patriarchs but to the prophet

Moses and through all Isaiah Jeremiah

all the prophets many of them if they

didn’t hear God speak directly to them

without a mediator or through an angel

which was a mediator or they were the

mediator they would have the vision or

the dream the the thing that we have to

understand is first of all the first

relationship is God’s a father MH when I

talk to my daughter I don’t need a

mediator right talk direct so I learned

many years in Ministry of just thinking

I had to do ministry get approval from

people and always be the Yes Man and I

couldn’t say no to anyone and I was a

people pleaser because I’m words of

affirmation and and I I love affirming

people but I’m always looking for the

affirmation back and one day God really

took off all the titles cuz you know I’m

a pastor I’m a rabbi a Messianic Rabbi

I’m a I’m a Bible College instructor I’m

a counselor I do marriage counseling

premarital I do it all I do I do a lot

of things I wear a lot of hats and I’m

also a husband I’m a father he says if

you strip all those away You’re my child

yes and so I realized I was seeking for

people’s affirmation their amen their

approval of me in my sermons my messages

because Ministry became my affirmation

yeah when I stripped all that away

happens to a lot of minist yes and that

could be a downfall the enemy tricks us

with that because then we’re people

pleasing instead of God pleasing and

then I realize I don’t get my from

people I get my affirmation from God

right everyone else is just a

confirmation that’s to God’s affirmation

that he tells me daily confirmation from

people so what is prophecy it’s a

confirmation so what you would hear as a

still small voice of God in your own

prayer Closet in prayer time in devotion

yes when you hear the prophetic word

it’s to confirm what God already spoke

to you that’s awesome and I if if if

someone prophesies over me and it just

doesn’t agree if with my spirit I don’t

get a green light I don’t get a check in

my spirit I just put it kindly on a

shelf and I said God if you want to

fulfill that open doors no man can shut

shut doors no man can open you didn’t

speak that to me directly if I’m missing

something if I’m being disobedient then

you speak to me right I have found that

I would say 90 99.9% of the time it was

a word from man and not a word from God

because it never came to pass and I gave

God room to say God fulfill that in my

life but what God speaks to me direct

and God confirms through a man or woman

of God through prophecy that always

comes to pass God’s timing that’s

awesome so now when it comes to Audible

Voice MH okay God did audibly speak from

SI the way it seems to be that Noah

heard the audible voice of God just like

Adam heard the audible voice of God

right by the time you get to Abram in

chapter uh 15 after the 12 uh promise of

you I’ll make you a great name and great

nation and I’ll bless all those that

bless you and curse all those who curse

you in chapter 15 it says he had a

vision

right there was a vision of God you know

in this kind of a dream state this

vision of God God speaks to him about

having a child MH you know and the

Beautiful Thing is even when he messes

up with Hagar you know I mean that was a

plan B was never plan a kind of messed

up from hearing the voice God Says with

Sarah you’re going to have a child God

gives him another chance to come back to

the original word he said because I’m a

strong believer and God will not give

you another word until you obey the last

word he spoke to you cuz man doesn’t

live by bread alone but by every word

that proceeds from the mouth of God

so what just proceeded from his mouth

have you obeyed that first don’t expect

for anything else to proceed when you

didn’t obey my daughter ask me things

all the time I said honey I won’t do

that until you do what I asked you to do

wow and then I will reward her for her

obedience so the aible voice I think

sometimes what people perceive as an

audible voice is just God’s overwhelming

voice of the holy spirit in their spirit

that it sounds audible right so a road

to Damascus so somebody right so

somebody can be hearing from God yes

even if it’s not audible yes but they

will describe it like it’s audible

because it’s so strong but if you ask

anyone else if they heard it they’re

like no I didn’t hear anything right do

you remember the Paul’s kind of

conversion process wrote to Damascus you

know there’s a light and there’s a voice

one text uh Records it as some Saw The

Light others say they heard the voice

but I believe the only one that had the

clarity of the voice and understood the

light was the one that was having the

conversation with Jesus who are you Lord

I want to go back to something you said

about uh confirmations with prophecies

yeah um I remember being at a particular

church and afterwards I went out to a

meal with two lovely women and one of

the women looked at me and she said you

know Lee said the spirit of God told me

that he’s going to put you in stadiums

and you’re going to be speaking in

stadiums and I thought you’re crazy

you’re crazy and I you know and I didn’t

bear witness with me but I mean I didn’t

do anything disrespectful to her or

anything like that and um in I think two

years later um I found myself in the

Telstra Arena but I didn’t put it

together and then I was at this big

arena um in St Louis and I was walking

in and I heard God say look up and I

looked up and I saw this big arena and I

realized I was in a football field a

football stadium wow and I went to call

the person afterwards to tell him and

she had passed on and it and it was

crazy because if it’s really God yeah

you don’t have to where you don’t have

to bring it to pass it’s going to happen

and um you gently put it on the Shelf I

just didn’t know what and you gave God

room to fulfill it if you’re not hearing

from him you didn’t have the ear to hear

Capac to stop it or make it happen so it

was it was going to have to be him so

there may be some of you that have words

and you you don’t bear witness with them

because you think I could never be part

of that I could never do that and God

may just have something he wants to

Astound you with because that that

astounded me I actually just started

crying yes and um then I spoke in the

stadiums a few more times it was it was

crazy all right so we’ve already talked

about how God speaks through the the

scriptures we know that he also speaks

through Parables and symbolism and I

know that you’ve had so much to say on

that and I kind of want to wrap up with

that you know it’s funny because that

was the question that the disciples had

for Jesus uh why do you speak in

Parables and it’s funny I quoted the

verse that that Jesus used in Matthew 13

when you talked about the SE of the seed

and they’re asking the question why do

you speak Parables and he says it’s

because people have eyes but they don’t

see they have ears but they don’t hear

they have hearts but they just don’t

perceive so the parable provokes you to

go deeper and if you have a desire

hiding something no because then the the

disciples asked more plainly teach us

what it means and he did right so the

masses got the parable and the disciples

the disciplined ones the people that are

disciplined in prayer in the word

they’re the people that get the

interpretation of the parable uh it’s

funny because I often teach my Bible

college students how to use online

resources so if I just do a a search for

Parables uh you know it’s funny that you

get the Matthew 13 first thing that pops

up and uh the idea of

Parables uh are found throughout Jewish

writings first of all all rabis

especially the first C Century used

Parables what that means is they

they would tell stories because what you

remember a story yeah you remember a

story and Jesus told stories right most

of the old testament’s not law they’re

stories of Adam and Noah and Abraham and

Isaac and Jacob and Moses and you know

down to S David and Solomon they’re all

stories and so the idea of speaking in a

parable is is that it takes a physical

story that everybody can understand and

it relates to like agriculture right we

observe it yeah major

uh occupation within the first century

and still Israel to this day is

agriculture I’ll make you a fruitful

plane uh a land flowing with milk and

honey so he used the common story of the

day maybe The Parables that Jesus would

speak today would speak with about

computers and Millennials and you know

the you know different things that are

part of our society and then you’re

supposed to draw a spiritual principle

out of it so it’s supposed to invoke in

you a desire to not only hear from God

but when something triggers in your

understanding that you say oh I’ve sewn

seed before I understand sewing on a

thorny soil or on a ground that is full

of of uh weeds or is a shallow you know

rock soil I understand because you know

in the four the four soils actually

speak of four conditions of the heart

you remember what they they there’s the

Wayside yep so the Wayside the seed is

trampled on how many souls or hearts are

trampled on by life yeah and so they

can’t receive they get zero fruit cuz

you’re never going to sew on that kind

of soil and get any Harvest cuz it’s not

made for it right the other soils give

you 30 60 and 100 fold those are the

good har good soil the good one we know

Isaac seed in that in the land of Israel

and he reaped 100 fold Harvest Jesus was

playing on that blessing of Isaac from

Abraham and he sewed and he ripped 100

fold that’s good soil right the other

two are Rocky and then thorny so what is

the rocky the rocky imagine from here to

the ground let’s say here’s the surface

and all of this extra space is is the

soil but when it hits the hardwood floor

it can no longer grow has no dep so it’s

never going to grow roots that can grow

a foood tree and fruit to maturation

dwarfs H yes and then that’s going to

give about 30% growth so then the 60% is

going to come from the thorny because

just when you think it’s getting ready

to produce the thorns and cares of Life

are going to choke it out the Old

Testament tells us not to sew among

Thorns wow and so everything in the Old

Testament was a setup for that so every

time a a Not only would a rabbi use a

parable but even the prophets used

Parables some of their Visions were

Parables to teach principles so I think

what you have to do is hear the story

just like you told a personal story yeah

everyone that’s watching you might say

well gosh my life’s just like Lisas I

might share something wow RBI Bren I

never knew he went through that well

gosh I’m going through that so

everything in life becomes a parable

right a teaching tool so everything

around us we have to constantly keep our

eyes and ears open so we can hear from

God you know what God wants to speak to

you in Parables he wants to speak to you

in dreams he wants to speak to you in

Visions he wants to talk to you in the

inner witness he wants to give you a

piece that passes understanding he wants

to confirm the dreams he’s put in your

heart the hopes he’s that author and he

is that finisher so I we just we only

able to touch the but I’m going to tell

you something you can get into the

scriptures and you’re going to see

things in a whole new light

understanding that God is your father

and he wants to speak to you as a son

and as a daughter that no father is

going to say I’m not going to talk to my

children but he’s going to want what’s

best for you so I hope this changes not

just your Vantage Point but that you

actually understand you’re a king yes

you’re a priest and you’re a prophet we

need what God wants to speak to you to

be released into this Earth we need you

to hear from God because other people

need to hear from you could you just

pray for them as we close out yes

father I just thank you today Lord God

for those that are watching on the on

this course and they’re just learning

how to hear your voice how to be

intimate with you how to have a

relationship with you as a father has it

with his children as a husband has with

his wife we pray that we will not have

to yell to God or him yelled at us

because we’re so far away but we want to

get as close as possible to hear your

voice we don’t want a Sinai experience

only we want to hear that still Small

Voice that Elijah experienced

experienced when he heard the voice of

God let us be like the prophets of old

speak to us in Visions in dreams in

Parables speak to us through life

situations Holy Spirit speak to our

spirit through the voice of our

conscience reminding us and bringing

back to our remembrance everything we’ve

meditated on in your word and

specifically speak to us through your

written word so we can understand the

Living Word his name is Jesus we thank

you today his name in Hebrew is Yeshua

salvation May those that are watching

not only be saved but they know that

they know that they know that they’re a

child of God and can hear the voice of

God and we can cry out ABA father by the

spirit of adoption the spirit of sunship

sons and daughters that hear the

father’s voice in Jesus name we pray

amen amen I’m going to close with this

Let the Peace of Christ the inner calm

of the one who walks daily with him be

the controlling factor in your hearts

deciding and suddenly questions that

arise this is what we’re praying for you

to this peace indeed you were called as

members of the body or Believers and be

thankful to God always so there’s that

thankfulness posture so the peace of God

that is described in Colossians 3:15 may

it be yours as you pursue hearing God
