I am so glad that you are here this
morning and I’m really excited because
me and pastor Natalie have just welcomed
into the world our brand-new princess
and I really want to show her to all of
our church families so here she is this
is Miss Ava Rae Michelle
Todd we are so excited about this little
bundle of joy and I just want to say
thank you so much for all your prayers
and your well wishes we know God is
expanding our TCC family and doing
something amazing here well today we get
to start a brand new series called
fruitful I want everybody to just say
that with me everybody say fruitful yet
we’re starting a new series about the
fruits of the Spirit and how God wants
to work in our lives as we understand we
meditate on and we start to produce
fruit in our lives and as I begin to
prepare for this series I was really
asking myself what does it mean to win
in this Christian life I mean like for
me personally what is the goal of this
Christian life and I I struggled with it
for a little bit because I was like
there’s so many things that we can do as
believers there’s so many things that we
can focus on but what is the
championship of being a Christ follower
and as I begin to study the Scriptures I
think Jesus gives a a very clear picture
of what he wants personally for you and
for me as a believer and it’s found in
Matthew chapter 28 verse 19 and when I
think about it
Christianity is one of the only
activities that most of the players
don’t know what the win is and you
understand that when you don’t know what
the win is you either become in
uninterested in it or you make up what
the win is and I just think about all
the people in our Christian community
who think it’s all about prophecy are
all about healing are all about outreach
are all about this and I believe all of
those things are important but if I keep
using a football analogy I’d say I
believe all of those things are first
downs
but they’re not the championship that
God wants every believer to have and
Matthew 28 shows us what God wants for
every person now let me give you some
context this is Jesus who is resurrected
and he has 40 days on the earth to be
able to heal and and talk to his
disciples and prepare for for what he’s
about to do when he has sins and this is
the last conversation that he has with
his disciples and let’s look at what he
asked the disciples to do Matthew 28
verse 19 it says alright guys this is
what I want you to do I want you to go
yeah I want you to leave here not stay
in this same place and I want you to go
and then I want you to make disciples
now that messes me up because he’s
talking to disciples and the last
instruction he gives them is I want you
to leave this place and I want you to go
make more of yourselves and I want you
to do it of all the nations baptizing
them in the name of the Father the Son
and the Holy Spirit and this is what I
want you to do guys I want you to teach
these new disciples these disciples that
you’re making like you when you leave
here I want you to teach these new
disciples to obey all of the commands I
have already given you like what I
already taught you what you learned from
walking with me I want you to go from
this place find other people and I want
you to make them into new disciples and
teach them what I’ve already taught you
and I want you to remember this one
thing be sure that you know that I’m
with you always even to the end of the
age now I think about this this is the
last words of instruction that Jesus
gives to his disciples he could have
literally told him he could have
literally told him I want all y’all to
build a monument in my name or I want
all y’all to get a JC tattooed on your
arm that would be pointless but he could
have told him to do that like he could
have said all this but no what does he
say I want you to make a disciple and I
want you to be a disciple so this truth
changed my life and I hope that you hear
it today what is the championship of
this Christ walk
it is to be a disciple and to make a
disciple I want you to write that down
and I want you to say it the goal of
this Christ walk is to be a disciple and
to make a disciple and a disciple is a
personal follower of Jesus so this is
not a group of it this is not a
churchwide of it this is not about the
organization this is about the organism
God wants you to personally follow him I
heard this definition it said a disciple
is someone who learns from him to live
like him God wants us to learn from
Jesus so that we can live like Jesus and
that was his last instruction to his
disciples and so I begin to think about
that what wasn’t his last instruction
his last instruction was not I want a
bunch of Christians running around here
that wasn’t his his instruction he
didn’t even use the word Christian and
and the word he used was disciple and I
want to bring that to our attention
because a lot of people like well he’s a
Christian she’s a Christian well they’re
Christians that doesn’t mean anything
are they disciples are they ones that
follow Jesus do they learn from him to
live like him and and most theologians
believe that it wasn’t it was 10 to 15
years later that the word Christian was
even used and and I’ll prove it to you
Acts chapter 11 verse 26 it says and in
Antioch the disciples were first called
Christians so God through Jesus told us
that he wanted disciples and if he could
get disciples to make other disciples
that was the win so I need to be a
disciple I need to make a disciple okay
fast I’m like I need to be a disciple I
need to make a disciple what does that
even mean and as I begin to battle with
that God sent me to this verse in John
15 verse 8 and I don’t want you to ever
forget this go there right now John 15
verse 8 it says when you produce much
fruit I want you to underline that
circle it the title of this series is
fruitful so that’s what that means when
you are food
or when you produce much fruit you are
my true disciples I want you to
understand that we just got a major key
to what it means to win the championship
in our Christian walk if we bear much
fruit then we are his disciples and it
doesn’t just stop there look what it
says it says and this brings great glory
to my father see God gets glory when we
bear much fruit when we become disciples
that’s how he gets glory and so I want
you to realize that that’s your playbook
from now on some of you’ve been saying
God what is my purpose what am I
supposed to do if you don’t know
anything else that you need to do you
need to know that the goal for me is to
become a disciple how do I do that I
have to have much fruit so I become a
true disciple and then I please God so I
begin to think about this in my own life
and I begin to say what areas in my life
am i fruitful and I begin to think
there’s a lot of areas that I’m fruitful
but then there are a lot of areas that
I’m not fruitful and you may be in this
place today like me as I begin to allow
the Lord to search my heart and I say
like man I want to be more fruitful in
these areas but I’m just not how do I
become more fruitful and I think it’s
imperative for us to delineate the
difference between somebody who’s a
Jesus fan and a Jesus follower oh you
know what I’m talking about you know
some people are fans of Jesus like they
come to church but they don’t actually
participate or or they say they’re a
Christian but they don’t live like a
Christian Monday through Saturday or
they come and they say they want to
serve but they don’t worship God with
their lifestyle you know there are
people that are fans but then people who
are followers are the ones who who match
what they say what they do you know
there’s people that think that Jesus is
a good example and then there are some
people that know that he is the example
it’s kind of like how some people think
that Jesus is a way like this there’s
many ways it could be it could be Buddha
it could be Muhammad or no no no he’s
the way and what I’m trying to say is is
my point is fair
like fruit but followers bear fruit I’m
gonna say that one more time people who
are fans of Jesus they like fruit they
like the way it looks they like the way
it tastes
they like the way that um the the it’s
luscious and it looks appetizing they
like what Christianity and being a Jesus
follower looks like but followers
actually bear fruit and I want you to
know that that’s needs to be our desire
as believers transformation Church I
want you to know that it’s not our goal
for us to stay the same it’s our goal to
bear fruit and many of us don’t know
what bear means and so let me give you a
definition bear means to carry okay it’s
like when you bear a burden or you carry
a burden followers of Jesus actually are
able to to carry fruit like when they
look at our lives we carry something
from two reasons primarily the first one
is we’re supposed to display it to the
world like when we display fruit like a
fruit of love when we love each other
and we love people who don’t love us the
world gets to see the fruit of Jesus
Christ in our life and I love how the
Bible confirms itself look at John 13:35
he says your love for one another will
prove to the world that you are my
disciples listen that’s God’s plan he
said I wants you to know that I want the
world to know that you are my disciples
but the only way they’ll know that is if
you show them by bearing fruit when you
love each other when you don’t expect it
when they don’t expect it he said that’s
how they’ll know so that’s the first
reason that we bear fruit and the second
reason that we bear fruit is so people
can eat the fruit see when we carry
fruit in our lives in the grocery store
at the mall at our school wherever we’re
at when we carry that fruit then people
come and they can eat of it what are you
trying to say Pastor Mike when people
come in contact with me and when they
come in contact with you they should be
able to taste and see that the Lord is
good there’s nothing like being around
people who are positive who are bearing
fruit who when you get around them you
can get nourished and Christ says that’s
true
that you’re my real disciple and so I
want you to realize through this series
that God wants fruit in your life Point
Blank period
I don’t care where you’re at right now
if you don’t feel like you’re being
fruitful or if you feel like you’re
being very fruitful God wants to produce
more fruit in your life and there’s
three types of fruit and I want to tell
you about them the one we’re gonna focus
on most through this series is this
first one its inner fruit these are
fruits of the spirit things that the
Holy Spirit is working in our lives and
and he’s moving other things out of our
lives so he can work this in our life
many of you participated a couple weeks
ago in the detox we got bad
relationships and wrong soul ties out of
our life this whole series what we’re
doing is we’re putting the right things
into our life and these are inner fruits
Galatians 5:22 5:22 it says but the Holy
Spirit produces this kind of fruit in
our lives
love joy peace patience kindness
goodness faithfulness gentleness and
self-control there is no law against
these things you don’t want to miss any
weeks of this series because we’re going
to take each one of those things and
we’re going to talk about how the Holy
Spirit works those things in our life so
that we can bear much fruit but I want
to give you two other types of fruit
that we are supposed to bear and desire
and the other one is out of fruit or
good works Matthew 5:16 says let your
light so shine before men in such a way
so this is so the world can see so that
they may see good works like like God
would rather you not be speaking in
tongues and do good so that they can see
him God would rather you um go in to a
place and be the change instead of
talking about how God can change it he
said I want people to see your good
works and watch and it says and it
glorifies your father in heaven see I
want you to realize this is fruit that
comes out of our life out of our life so
it starts in the inside and then it
works outside so those fruit of the
Spirit start on the inside and then God
says when those fruits of the spirits
begin to mature it makes you do things
on the outside and though
good works and the last thing that God
wants to see out of our life he wants
our life to bear its people through
through soul winning now I know this is
a cuss word for a lot of people it’s
like this 2017 you just want me to walk
up to somebody and say what is your
relationship with Jesus like do you know
the Lord no that’s not what I’m talking
about but I am talking about engaging
people intentionally knowing that Hale
is a real-deal situation and eternity is
a real-deal situation and God gives us
the mandate to go and make more
disciples and he wants fruit out of our
lives to be that we care enough about
other people to get outside of our
comfort zone or our insecurities or our
personality and go reach out and touch
somebody else when we get to heaven I
believe that we’re gonna be greeted by
every person that we personally help win
to Jesus and that’s what Christ once
that was his whole plan for Humanity is
that somebody’s life would be changed
and then they would have the inner
fruits of the Spirit work in there they
would start doing good works and then
they would move them to soul-winning and
helping somebody else and that’s people
through look at proverbs 11 verse 30 it
says the fruit of the righteous is a
tree of life and he who wins Souls is
wise like when you make it an
intentional goal that wherever you go
that you’re looking for an opportunity
to share the love of Jesus the grace of
Jesus the unfailing unmerited grace that
God gave to you with somebody else
he says you’re a wise person my question
is are you eyes because if you are
you’re bearing these fruits inner fruit
outer fruit and people fruit and so how
are we gonna do that Pastor Mike go to
John 15 I love the Bible because it
gives us clarity and today is kind of
like a Bible study like we walk in line
upon line precept upon precept up in the
word so that we can get an understanding
of why God wants us to be fruit full
okay John 15 this is Jesus talking and
look what he says these are some
powerful words he says I am The True
Vine and my father is the vine dresser
every branch in me that does not bear
fruit he takes away and every branch
that bears fruit he prunes that it may
bear more fruit you are already clean
because of the word which I have spoken
to you abide in me and I in you as the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself
unless it abides in the vine neither can
you unless you abide in me verse 5 I am
the vine he said it again just for all
of us who are remedial he said and you
are the branches
I want you to get that Jesus is the vine
and we are the branches he who abides in
me and I in them bears much fruit for
without me you can do nothing if anyone
does not abide in me he is cast out as a
branch and is withered and they gathered
them up and throw them into the fire and
they are burned if you abide in me and
my words abide in you you will be able
to ask what you desire and it shall be
done for you
by this my father is glorified that you
bear much fruit or your fruitful so you
will be my disciples guys I mean that
one scripture right there we could leave
and go home right now because it tells
us everything we need to know and I just
want to break it down I want to
represent this to you in a way that you
can practically look at it in your life
so to end this sermons I don’t want to
give you what I call the four types of
Christ followers remember we got a
delineate between fans of Christ and
followers of Christ but then when you
become a follower of Christ there are
four types of Christ’s followers look
back at verse 1 of chapter 15 it says I
am The True Vine and my father is the
vine dresser so who is the true vine
Jesus okay and then who is the vine
dresser or another way that we can say
that
who’s the farm owner who owns the farm
God okay I want you to get that analogy
so now that we know Jesus is the vine
and God owns the farm look at verse 2 it
says every branch in me that means these
people are saved these people have
received grace through faith so they’re
saved every branch of me
that does not bear fruit he takes away
okay so what that tells me is that there
are people that are Christians and
Christ’s followers but they are saved
okay but they have no fruit now I want
you to look at this and I want you to
see what what Christ is saying that
there are people who have accepted me
but they bear no fruit and that may be
you in this room today and I want you
not to look at your neighbor right now
and not be trying to nudge people or I
want you to sow self-evaluate today are
you in a place where you know you’ve
been following Christ but you’re not
bearing any fruit because today I really
believe through this series and what God
wants to do is he wants fruit in your
life now look there’s somebody else that
we see in this scripture it says it
keeps going in verse two so I want you
to get this that’s a no fruit follower
okay that person that first person
that’s a believer it’s a no fruit
follower and then it says every branch
that bears fruit stop so there’s some
people that bear fruit they are
believers and they bear fruit so this is
kind of what your life looks like okay
so you’ve been following Christ and
there’s some areas of your life that
that there are some fruit there that
people can see and that they can be able
to eat from and that they can be able to
know that Christ is working in your life
so there’s people these are some fruit
followers okay no fruit followers some
fruit followers okay let’s keep reading
through this okay look at verse um the
the the rest of verse two he says and
every Bunch
every branch that bears fruit what does
he do he prunes that it may bear more
fruit so if you are bearing some fruit
the way that you begin to bear more
fruit is that you get pruned and this is
what I call more fruit followers so
remember there’s no fruit followers
there’s some fruit followers and then
there are more fruit followers and most
of us would be satisfied with this hey
listen this all I need Jesus me and
Jesus that is a full plate of fruit
that’s all I need but that’s not all
that God has for you look at this
I love the Word of God look at it verse
three
it says you already have been clean
because of the word which I have spoken
to you abide in me and I in you as the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself
unless it abides in the vine neither can
you neither can you
you cannot bear fruit unless you’re
connected to Jesus and unless you abide
in me look at this verse 5 this is where
we get the last one it says I am the
vine and you are the branches he who
abides in me and I in them bears
everybody say it together much fruit
this is what your life looks like boom
this is what your life looks like when
you abide in God you bear much fruit or
your fruit full and this is God’s desire
for every single person under the sound
of my voice is that you wouldn’t just
live a Christian life that that has you
out here going to heaven you’re going to
heaven you’re making it to Evan but
you’re bearing no fruit nobody can eat
off of your life nobody can see that
you’re a true disciple nobody can go to
you and be able to come to you in the
time of need see because this whole
thing is not about us it’s about us so
that we can go get somebody else
remember Matthew 28 said that we’re
supposed to go and make more of us but
we can’t reproduce nothing and I’m sad
to say but the reason that the church is
in such a decline in many places in the
world is because we have fruit less
believers but that’s changing that
transformation Church and that’s
changing in your life that God wants you
to produce fruit in your life and how do
we go from being fruitless or a a no
fruit follower to having some fruit I’m
glad you asked it’s one word desire like
that word down desire Philippians 2:13
it says for God is working in you man I
got a good dad God is working in you and
he’s giving you the desire and not just
the desire like God is so good that when
he starts working in you that’s the
reason why you’re here today that’s the
reason why your friend keeps texting you
that’s the reason why somebody sends you
the link
to the message because God’s working in
you he’s trying to draw you but he just
doesn’t give you the desire then he
gives you the power I mean it would be
one thing for somebody to give me a bowl
of cereal with no milk but when you give
me the bowl of cereal with the milk I
can enjoy that that’s what God is saying
I’m not just gonna give you one part of
it without the other I’m gonna give you
the desire but by my Holy Spirit I’m
gonna give you the power as well and
then he says I’m gonna give you the
desire and the power to do what pleases
him God wants us to be fruitful or have
much fruit in our life so if you’re here
and you want to get to here the only
thing you need to do is say God today in
this service I want more fruit I want
you I know I’m saved God but I want to
give away those things that are not like
you and I want to get those things on
the inside of me that are like you I
want to divorce those things that keep
me back and held from my greatest
potential and I want to be used by you
and God begins to work in you you’ll
begin to watch DVDs he’ll send you a
book he’ll send you a friend you’ll join
into a belong group you’ll start to get
it and what will happen is you’ll start
to produce some fruit so fast I’m like
how do I go from some fruit to more
fruit cuz I feel like I’m here how many
of y’all feel like you don’t raise your
hand don’t feel but some of y’all are
right here right now okay how do I go
from here to here well look what the
Word of God tells us it says every
branch that bears fruit okay so we got
some fruit right here every branch that
bears fruit y’all not gonna like this
but how you go from some fruit some more
fruit is that you have to get pruned see
what God says is that I’m not mad at you
cuz you’re bearing some fruit but the
only way that I can get you to the place
of more fruit is I have to cut things
off of your life that would stunt your
growth oh that’s good look at some of
y’all have thought the things that
you’re walking through is a punishment
and it’s a pruning you thought you
thought those people leaving your life
and God disconnecting you are you moving
from one place to another place you
thought that was God saying that he was
not with you
that’s God trying to take your some
fruit
two more fruit but it takes some pain
pruning is painful the loss of that
relationship is painful having to
relocate is painful having to do without
some of those things that have helped me
and been crutches all my life it’s
painful but God says that I desire to
producing you not with just you’ve not
just what you have had what I desire and
see for you and that’s gonna take me
pruning so I want to talk to somebody so
clearly right now who has thought that
the season that you’re in has been a
punishment and God is saying no no no
I’m producing more fruit in you and you
have to change your perspective today I
remember a time in my life before I
became a pastor now I was going through
the most difficult season in my life and
the Holy Spirit was not speaking to me
about nothing I mean I was frustrated I
was losing money I said god I thought I
heard you and literally the Holy Spirit
by His grace he resolved this whole
situation that took two years it was
concerned in my house and my family and
money and all kinds of stuff and he took
a situation that I thought was horrible
and it qualified me to stand before you
and be your pastor right now he said
Michael I had to prune you I had to work
on your attitude and your self-control
and I had to work on your patience I had
to work on all of that so I could
produce more food in your life be
encouraged that what you’re going
through is about to produce more food
for you well be encouraged that what God
has has ordained for you is more fruit
but it’s gonna take some pruning so when
you see the shears come out don’t get
scared
don’t run some of y’all been running
y’all been running when God’s been
trying to break you from that
relationship you’ve been running with
God’s trying to ask you to come into
ministry or serve more or give more are
tied you have to be able to get pruned
and you’ll produce more fruit okay but
that’s the mic I feel like I’m producing
more fruit now so how do I go from more
fruit to fruitful or much fruit this is
what the Word of God says he says
I want you to abide in me I want you I
want you to stay in me I want you I want
you to get so locked in to me that
anything that I need to get to you I can
get to you and it will produce fruit in
your life that word abide right there I
want you to look at it it means to stay
in one place for a long time now in a
society where we don’t even like cell
phone contracts are capable contracts we
don’t want to stay in the same place for
no amount of time God is saying I want
you to stay in me the connotation when
you look up the definition means to stay
through struggle yeah to stay even when
it’s hard and if we think about it
that’s the believers and the Christ
followers that produce much fruit are
the ones that stay connected to Christ
even through the hard times I was
studying and I was looking at grapes and
vineyards and in most people who who
owned grape farms or vineyards they say
that the best tasting wine comes from
grapes that endure the struggle yeah
that’s a message for somebody right now
that you need to endure the struggle you
need to go through it because it’s going
to produce much fruit in your life and I
think about it if you stay committed to
God through the hard times I promise you
I am a living testimony it will produce
much fruit in your life if you abide if
you stay put and you know what you can
actually apply this to other situations
if you’re a married believer do you
abide or do you stay through the
struggle I know it’s hard for your
marriage right now but God’s saying stay
through it and watch me produce a
marriage that other people can eat off
of
if you’re a Christian business owner and
I know your business is not doing that
good right now do you stay faithful even
during the financial struggle do you
stay faithful do you keep tithing to you
to keep giving God said I’m trying to
produce much fruit in your life but you
have to abide in me and so what are you
saying Pastor Mike point-blank period
God wants to work these fruits of the
Spirit in your life and he’s trying to
do it so that you’re not a believer that
doesn’t have any fruit that you’re not
just a believer who has some fruit
and you’re not even though it’s good
it’s cool but but God doesn’t want you
to compare yourself to anybody else he
wants you to have the fullness of what
he’s what he’s come to give you
remembered what the scripture says that
I come that you might have life and have
life to the full fullness fruitfulness
he said so I don’t just want you to have
more fruit I want you to have much fruit
so my last point today is fruit is all
about the root verse 4 of that tells us
it says if you abide in me or if you
stay connected now remember who the vine
is remember who the root is remember
where all life is supplied from remember
that God has given us everything that
produced to life and godliness through
Jesus Christ that means Jesus is the
vine or the root and if we stay
connected to him we’ll produce good
fruit verse 4 says abide in me and I in
you as you cannot bear fruit of itself
unless it abides in the vine can I tell
you something you can’t do this without
Jesus and some of you have tried like me
and I’m telling you today that your try
will be futile if you do not get
connected to the root that’s gonna
produce the fruit that you want there’s
a scripture that says that a good tree
always produces good fruit and a bad
tree can never produce good fruit God’s
saying if you just stay connected to me
not all these things in the world non
social media not wrong relationship if
you just stay connected to the root
that’s gonna give you the fruit that you
want he said you will be able to produce
much fruit and I just wanted to come
tell somebody who’s been running
somebody who’s been going after other
things you cannot hear me
can not bear the fruit you want to see
without him but just as powerful as that
statement is look what Philippians 4:13
says for with God with Christ I can do
all things so without him without being
connected him nothing with being
connected to him all things I came to
tell you that there is nothing
that is impossible for you if you get
connected to the True Vine of Jesus
Christ and you produce much fruit it is
God’s desire for every person under the
sound of my voice to be fruit full let’s
pray this morning father I thank you for
what you’re doing in our lives father
that’s starting on the inward got that
through these next few weeks you’re
gonna work the fruits of the spirit into
us father and we are gonna be able to
see the evidence on the outside by our
good works and as we see the evidence in
our good works god I thank you God that
you’re gonna move it to where we’re
going to be able to see people food like
people will taste and see that you are
good
and God I thank you that we won’t be
Christians and believers who have no
fruit but you will make us fruitful
father wherever we are if we have some
food or we have more fruit God let us
all desire to have much fruit and I
thank you right now that you’re bringing
this church and everybody listening into
a fruitful place as we stay connected to
the fruit True Vine as we stay plugged
in and connected to Jesus Christ I thank
you for blessing these people and
letting them live a fruitful life this
week in Jesus name we agree amen hey
listen I’m telling you that you do not
want to miss the next eight weeks of
this series as we begin to walk through
each fruit of the Spirit and see how it
can be producing much fruit in our life
if you’re in this room and you’re saying
Pastor Mike I’m not even on this table
like like when I look at this table like
you said they’re a believer and and they
got some food and they got more food and
they got much fruit like I’m over here
somewhere
I’m asking you to come to the table and
it’s one of the easiest decisions that
you ever make it’s accepting Jesus
Christ as your personal Lord and Savior
according to Romans 10:9 it tells us
that if you believe that he died for you
and that he rose again for you and you
confess that and believe that in your
heart you’re saved see religion tries to
tell you you need to
jump through all these hoops and change
everything but we believe that if God
gets your heart he can change your
habits so today as a church if you’re in
this room and you want to make that
decision I want us to pray this prayer
together let us all just bow our heads
and close our eyes just for a moment and
we’re all going to say this prayer
together for the benefit of those who
are coming to Christ but you know who
you are you’re in this room and God has
been working in you that’s why you’re
here this morning and he wants to bear
much fruit in your life I want you to
say this prayer just say God I need you
come into my life and transform me I
believe you’ve lived and you died just
for me and today I ask you to make
become and today I ask you to be my Lord
and Savior in Jesus name Amen
hey listen if you prayed that prayer I
am so proud of you and all of heaven the
Bible tells us if there’s one person
that meant that prayer which you know
you meant it you’ve been walking away
from God and you’re saying today I’m
coming home and and God says that all of
heaven turns up and so on the count of
three this is what I want you to do I
want you to stretch your faith I know
that you’re saying Who I just made this
decision but God says if you don’t deny
