Welcome to our Tuesday’s broadcast of
the Gospel truth today I’m continuing my
teaching verse by verse through the book
of Philippians we’re in Philippians
chapter 3 and in verse 6 I’m going to
backtrack just a little bit right before
I do that let me just say that we’ve got
a lot of material on this I’m giving
away this little booklet this is about
120 page
booklet and this is a printed copy of
what I taught in Atlanta at a gospel
truth conference
where I was teaching verse by verse
through the book of Philippians and
they’ve just taken this and put it into
a book form I’m giving this away and
this would be a blessing to you and uh

commentary uh but I’ve written footnotes

Corrections uh anything things like that
that I’ve done and it’s a living
commentary once I’m gone to be with the
Lord we’ll turn it into a static
commentary I’ll quit writing it then but
at the moment I’m still writing this so
yesterday we ended well let me go back
to uh Philippians chapter 3:3 and just
go to the last half of this verse where
Paul said that he rejoices in Christ
Jesus and has no confidence in the flesh
did you know it’s either going to be one
or the other either you are going to
find your total identity worth and value
in Christ or you’re going to find it in
yourself but it can’t be both of these
together and I think that most people
really struggle with this most people
think well you know I know that Jesus is
what puts me over the top he’s the icing
on the cake he’s the sauce on the
spaghetti I admit that Jesus is you know
the best part but man I’ve also got to
be something and people take a lot of
pride in all of their accomplishments
you know the scripture says what do you
have that you haven’t received from God
and if you’ve received it then why do
you glory as if you haven’t received it
did you know the truth is if you have
great talent if you can sing if you can
do something athletically better than
other people if you are smart and you
can do things with your wisdom and if
you’re great in finances or you could
just go on and on listing things
anything good good in you it came from
God and the proper way to look at things
isn’t there it isn’t to think that God
I’m really awesome I’ve got these great
talents and I just ask you to put your
super on my natural and you just use it
and you make it and but you are really
rejoicing in yourself it’s that’s not
right you need to come to a place that
any good thing in your life God is the
source of it and you know for me it is
just so obvious I I mention these things
and and when I say these things I have
people that will get mad at me and they
say you’re putting yourself down I’m not
putting myself down I know who I am in
Christ and in Christ I’m awesome but I’m
just saying that in my flesh uh I don’t
glory in myself the Apostle Paul was
saying this same thing he went on to say
in verse four though I might also have
confidence in the flesh if any other man
thinks that he has whereof he might
Trust In the Flesh I am more circumcised
The Eighth Day of the stock of Israel of
The Tribe of Benjamin a Hebrew of the
Hebrews as touching the law of Pharisee
concerning Zeal persecuting the church
touching the righteousness which is in
the law
blameless in verse 7 he says but what
things were gained to me those I counted
lost for Christ yay doubtless I count
all things but lost you know I’m not
going to go into a great explanation on
this but when he says I count all things
but loss that word there that uh the
Greek word that was used it means to
lead that is command with official
Authority uh figuratively to deem or
consider in other words it’s saying that
he aggressively took all of his Great
accomplishments and he took them by
force and counted them but lost for the
Excellency of the knowledge of Christ
Jesus my Lord for whom I have suffered
the loss of all things and do count them
but Dum that I may win Christ I just
love the way the Bible is written I love
the way that God inspired people here’s
Paul talking about I was a Pharisee of
the Pharisees I was a Hebrew of the
Hebrews I was more educated I was better
off than any of you all of you who are
bragging about your great
abilities he says I was I had more
accomplishments than all of you and yet
I count all of that stuff but dung
manure
so that I may win Christ and again most
people will reject the things that I’m
saying that’s the reason that you don’t
have the results that the Apostle Paul
had that’s the reason that when somebody
comes out and criticizes you you just
fall apart like a $2 suitcase because
look what they said about me you love
yourself so much you are so impressed
with yourself that when everybody else
isn’t impressed with you it just breaks
your heart did you know when you come to
the end of yourself and you get to where
you are not not in love with yourself it
doesn’t mean you hate yourself it
doesn’t mean that you you don’t
recognize that God has given you talents
and ability but you recognize any good
thing that is in you it all comes from
Jesus you give him all the credit and so
when somebody comes out against you and
criticizes you it’s no big deal you’re
dead to yourself you know that’s what
Paul said he says I’m crucified with
Christ yet I’m alive but it’s not me
it’s Christ Living in me and Jesus got
all of the credit for everything that
the Apostle Paul did and because of that
when people came out against him if
you’re dead to yourself it’s not going
to affect you you could take a corpse
and you could lay a corpse in front of a
person and you could spit on the corpse
you could kick the corpse you could
ignore the corpse you could insult the
corpse and if it’s a corpse it’s not
going to respond you know why you
respond the way you do is cu you aren’t
a corpse you Aren’t Dead to yourself you
love yourself you have so much
confidence in your flesh that when you
see other people that don’t have
confidence in your flesh it offends you
you know the scripture
says that you’re to agree with your
adversary quickly while you’re in the
way now I’ll admit I’m kind of taking
that and using it in maybe a different
way than it was originally intended when
Jesus said that but here’s the way I do
that when the Devil comes to me and he
says you’re a loser when somebody
criticizes me and comes against me and
says you’re a mess and stuff instead of
of sitting there and trying to defend
myself and trying to get them to love me
as much as I love myself you know what
I’ll just agree with my adversary
quickly while I’m in the way and say you
know what you’re right if I was God I
wouldn’t have chosen me I’m not the
sharpest knife in the drawer I don’t
have any confidence in my flesh praise
God for Jesus who was awesome and lived
for me and has given me his
righteousness and his ability and I am
standing in Christ and I just don’t try
and defend myself I actually had a man
one time he was a leader in the
city and he was criticizing me and and
the this is when covid happened and all
of the city leaders came
a a commissioner and they were railing
on me and you’re going to do what we say
and you cannot we we could accommodate
5,000 people in our facilities in
different rooms and stuff and they were
saying we couldn’t have over 75 people
or something like that and I just said
I’m not going to do it and they said you
are going to do it you have to respect
us and he this one guy got the saying
you have no integrity and he said you
have you’re just a and he started
blasting me and saying things and you
know I just looked at him and I said
look I have been criticized by a lot
more important people than you I said
this is not going to bother me and I
know that that just ins senses some
people but
honestly you know it just if you find
your life in Christ the only thing I
desire is to please the Lord and to
bring glory to God and I am not sitting
here promoting myself I don’t have
confidence in myself it’s easy for me to
turn things over and let other people do
it now I’ll take the responsibility that
God has given me that I am responsible
for what happens in and through this
ministry and if I see things getting off
track I’ll straighten it out and I’m not
advocating my responsibility but I don’t
micromanage everything because I do not
think that I am better than everybody
else I’ve got people working for me that
are a lot smarter than I am the only
difference is I’m the one that God
anointed to run this ministry and so it
doesn’t matter if they’re smarter if
they’re more talented than I am I’m the
one that God chosen I’ve taken my
position but I am not overly confident
in myself I have learned to just find
any value any worth any good thing in my
life it’s because of
Jesus most of you don’t know me but man
I was an introvert I couldn’t even look
at a person in the face and now I
minister to millions of people every day
I’m doing things that I know I can’t do
and because of it it just gives me a
security it you know when you get to
where you think you can do
everything uh you’re actually weak when
you’re strong but Paul said in 2
Corinthians chapter 12 when I’m weak
then I’m strong but when you’re strong
you’re really weak God’s power doesn’t
flow through you when you are doing
things in your own strength and own
ability you need to come to the end of
yourself before you find the beginning
of God did you know back when our
ministry was small and we only had like
two or $3,000 a month was our monthly
income we were struggling financially we
had collection agencies coming after us
and back during that time I had always
kind of had it in the back of my mind
that well if it doesn’t work out I can
go get a job and I can make the money
and I can pay off these debts and as
long as there was something I could do
to make this happen I actually struggled
but did you know now we are at a place
where I have I don’t remember the exact
number but it’s something like 11 or
$12,000 per hour 24 hours a day 7 days a
week 365 days a year I have to have it
is just so far beyond my ability that
you know actually it’s easier for me now
when we have to have8 million1 million
do a month to pay our bills it’s
actually easier on me now because it’s
just so far beyond me that there I can’t
go get a job I can’t do this out so it’s
just easy to say God it’s got to be you
as long as you think that you can Sol
solve the problem that you’ve got Plan B
and if trusting God doesn’t work out
maybe I can do this well then I
guarantee you Satan is going to fight
you and you will struggle and stuff but
when you just realize that God has
called you to do something that’s so far
beyond you you can humble yourself and
throw your care about it over on the
Lord and it’s a great way to
live this is what Paul’s talking about
he was more talented than any of his
critics and yet he says I have no
confidence I’m rejoicing in Christ I am
not rejoicing in
myself you know I have people come up
all the time and tell
me how God has touched their life and
how they’ve been blessed and things like
this and I know I know better than
anybody else that it is not me that has
done this it’s God and man I give God
all the credit and all the glory for it
and I just constantly do that but
there’s a lot of people that h honly
they begin to start taking credit they
start looking at what they’ve done if
you would be honest I bet you you’ve
seen lots of people that started out
good and then they crashed and burned
along the way I’m talking primarily
about ministers that maybe they started
with a pure heart but it didn’t last and
I think one of the reasons for that is
is because if you see God flow through
you and somebody gets healed some
marriage gets healed people get born
again things are happening and stuff and
they come and they start thanking you uh
there is a Temptation for you to take
the credit for that and to think man
look what I’ve done and the moment you
start having confidence in your flesh
think about look what I have
done man you that’s a recipe for
disaster Proverbs 16:18 says Pride goes
before destruction and a hotty spirit
before the fall you know when we re
building our
Auditorium it was still under
construction and we had the mayor and
the uh Chamber of Commerce and city
council and other people come and we
were giving them a tour and we were
standing up on the roof looking at the
the building as it was under
construction and the mayor looked at me
and he says You must be so
proud I said pride is not the right word
I said that would imply that I’ve done
this and I said I have not done this
this is something that God wanted done
he asked me to do it and I’ve responded
but it is is God I said I can’t take
credit for any of
this and some of you may not understand
that and I’m saying this in love but
that’s the very reason that God’s not
using you because he’s not going to take
his glory and give it to
you men will do that but you have to
constantly deflect that and you need to
recognize that there’s nothing in me
that didn’t come from God if it’s good
it there’s nothing in me good that
didn’t come from God and if it came from
God well then why am I taking credit as
if I was the source of it man this is
what Paul is saying and Paul said that
he counted all of the things that he had
done and he these were good things that
he had done I mean he he studied the
word he was a Pharisee of the Pharisee a
Hebrew of the Hebrews he had done all of
these things and he says I take all of
these things and I count all of these
rewards all of his accomplishments I
count them but dung that I may win
Christ you know what we do with our dung
with all of our accomplishments we frame
it put it on the wall for everybody to
see look at my dung you know I was
teaching this in my Bible school about
20s something years ago and I actually
had somebody take a cow patty and they
waited until it got hardened and then
they framed it and put it in a frame and
gave it to me and I kept that from in my
garage for a long time finally my wife
threw it away but it was a graphic
illustration of what I’m talking about
Paul said he counts it but D we count
our we we glory and ours have a Manel
where we put all of our Awards I’m not
saying that that’s 100% wrong it really
depends on your heart but if you are
taking credit for that if you are
thinking man I am better than these
people I done
this you are the opposite of what the
Apostle Paul was and here we are 2,000
years later talking about the Apostle
Paul do you think if the Lord terries
2,000 years from now people will be
talking about you I would think that his
attitude is a superior attitude instead
of us gloring in all of our stuff and
being just so enamored with who we are
and that’s why you are so sensitive when
somebody else doesn’t share your view of
you you know if you don’t have an
inflated impression of yourself when
people don’t give you honor that you
think you deserve when they don’t give
you the recognition you don’t get the
promotion it doesn’t bother you because
you aren’t that impressed with
yourself if people ignore
you but I guarantee you there’s a lot of
people that if you don’t get the credit
that you think you deserve boy that’s
reason for you to get angry you know the
scripture says in Proverbs chapter 13
verse 10 only by pride comes contention
it didn’t say it’s a leading cause for
those with type A personality this is
what makes you have strife and
contention it says only by pride comes
contention and pride isn’t just
arrogance thinking you’re better than
everybody else pride is just self
centeredness if you spell the word p r i
d i is the center of Pride there are
people with low self-esteem that are
very prideful you are focused on
yourself you are constantly comparing
yourself and thinking you’re worse than
everybody else did you know that that’s
Pride low
self-esteem is pride where you’re just
beating yourself down I’m not talking
about denying the fact that God has used
you God has blessed you that you have
succeeded that you may be a success in
the business world I’m not saying that
you deny those things but I’m saying you
recognize that all of the good anything
good in you is because of God and it’s
because you have yielded to God and
you’ve let God live through you it’s not
your own flesh I tell you you’ve got to
get that attitude and this is rare this
is nearly this is opposite of the way
the world thinks but even in the body of
Christ there are very very very few
people that are not impressed with who
they are especially if they are in a
leadership position and if God has used
them and if anything good has happened
most people are just really thinking
that boy God you are so blessed to have
me on your team you need to recognize
like I said that God has never had
anybody qualified working for him yet
God uses Us in spite of who we are not
because of who we are you know I had a
man come to one of my meetings one time
I I was at the fips auditorium in Denver
and we had about three or 400 people
come and anyway after the thing was over
he wrote a letter and my mother was one
that was opening the letters and boy she
thought this was hilarious so she
brought this letter in me and this guy
Shar that he had been called to the
ministry 12 years before but when he
tried to go into the ministry his wife
said she did not want to be a pastor’s
wife and she divorced him and she took
the kids and it separated his family and
so for 12 years he’d just been sitting
there licking his wounds thinking how
could God ever use
me and he came to that meeting and he
wrote in this letter he says after
seeing God use you he said I figured if
God could use you he could use anybody
and he says I decided I’m going into the
ministry and my mother brought that to
me she thought it was funny and I
understood exactly that’s the way I feel
if God can use me God can use anybody he
used the donkey one time to speak to
balum man God does God didn’t use that
donkey because he’d been fasting and
praying and studying the word and living
holy and doing anything if God could use
a donkey he could use you you need to
you need to pop your bubble get out of
yourself get over yourself and take all
of your Great accomplishments and say
God the only good thing in me is what
you have done you’re the one that gave
me the talents and the abilities all the
Lord had have to do is just scramble the
chemicals in your brain just a little
bit man you’d be having drool dripping
off your chin somebody leading you about
by the hand I guarantee you you are not
a self-made man or woman any good thing
in you it’s because of Jesus and you
need to get over yourself and get into
God you know I man I’ve just now laid
the foundation to say some really
important things Paul is going to be
saying some of the most revealing things
about why he was able to be used of God
why God used him and here we are 2,000
years later talking about the Apostle
Paul it he’s revealing his heart here
and I tell you this is so important you
aren’t going to hear this very often you
are not going to hear very many people
say the things that I’ve been saying
that Paul is saying that I’m sharing
here from the book of Philippians
and that’s the reason that we see so
many people that just are miserable
today they’re depressed they’re
discouraged they’re talking suicide
their life is out of control and it’s
because they are in love with themsel
they haven’t yielded their life over
they haven’t become like the Apostle
Paul where he said for me to live as
Christ and to die as gain when you get
over yourself and you get to where you
put all of your love all of your worth
all of your value everything into Jesus
instead of into yourself then you can
take whatever life throws at you because
Jesus is going to be the same yesterday
today and forever you aren’t you will
fail you will be up and down like a
yo-yo but Jesus is consistent and I tell
you you need to come into Christ you
need to find your worth and value you
know we got a number on the
screen and we’ve got people standing by
at our phones in the US we have our
phone center open 24/7 and I’d like to
encourage you to call and get all of

could pray with you some of you the Lord
has spoken to you today and convicted
you and you just need to humble yourself
and you may not even know how to do it
