broadcast of the gospel truth today I’m
beginning a brand new series that I
think is really going to be a blessing
to you I’m gonna start talking about
God’s kind of love to you God’s love for
you individually and we’ve got a lot of
things our announcer will be giving more
information on this but let me just
preface this whole teaching by saying
that you know I’ve had a series out for
a number of years entitled God’s kind of
love that cure for what ails you
but recently I held a gospel truth
seminar and I did five teachings
specifically about how God loves us not
talking about how we love other people
but about how God loves us and I instead
of just making that point what I did
actually was kind of teach against a lot
of things that hinder people from
understanding the love of God as I go
through this series I think that this is
going to become very obvious what I’m
talking about but you know this reminds
me of a time that I had one of my Bible
College students come in and it was a
woman that was in her 60s and she had
her son with her and both of them were
Bible college students and she was
struggling in some area of her life I
honestly don’t remember what occasion
this but if she came in and sat down and
talked to me she gave me her story
because I was telling her how she needed
to walk in love and how she needed to
understand that God loved her and not be
under condemnation etc and this woman
told me her story and I may not have the
details exactly right but it was it’s
very similar this is basically what
happened to her that when she was like
six months old her father died
and at eight months old her mother
deserted her and left her to other
people and so she grew up dealing with
this rejection and in living in foster
homes and things like this and then when
she married she married a very
condemning and abusive person I don’t
think he was abusive in the sensitive
beater but he just always was running
her down and so anyway this woman was 60
something years old and I was talking to
her about walking in love and she
honestly didn’t have a reference for
what God’s kind of love was like and I
really believe that this is a problem is
that most people have all of these wrong
experiences these negative negative
experiences and then you add to that
what religion teaches about God that I
believe really misrepresents God and you
take life’s experiences of rejection and
you put with that religions teaching
about how God is the one that puts all
of our problems on us and God is angry
at us and rejects us and unless you do
everything right this perfectionist
attitude when you add all of this
together it just compounds the problem
and so this teaching that I did at a
recent gospel truth seminar is just
basically talking about how God loves us
but it’s doing it from the standpoint of
countering so much of our experiences
personal experiences religious teaching
trying to explain how is it that a holy
God can love an unholy person we talked
about unconditional love and a lot of
other things and anyway I just thought
that it was really good as a matter of
fact here’s another testimony that goes
along with it that I had a woman come up
to me who had been coming to my meetings
for at least 15 years probably 20 years
she’d been attending to my meetings and
she came up to me after this teaching
and she says I finally got it she said I
thought I understood how God loved me
before but she says I’ve got a
revelation this week of God’s
unconditional love for me that she had
never had before
and so it’s not really
brand-new teaching it’s a totally
different way of approaching a subject
that I minister on constantly if any
hobby watched this program or I’ve
listened to many of my materials I’ll
just you know pull back the curtain here
and give you some behind-the-scenes
information but all I ever do is talk
about God’s love for us and I just used
a different scripture and put a
different title on the teaching and
stuff but it’s all about God’s love this
is what changed my life and so this
teaching is about the love of God but
it’s specifically putting a spin on it
that is not just stating the obvious
that God loves us but it’s going into
things that hinder us from understanding
that God loves us and I go in and I
counter these teachings some of it
religious teaching some of it just life
experiences and things that hinder us
from understanding the love of God
you know it’s my experience in
ministering that probably sharing the
love of God is one of the hardest things
when you use that title and say that
you’re talking about the love of God
because people will just immediately say
I know that God loves us and I think I
need to hear something else I need to
understand faith I need to get hold of
faith but you know there’s a scripture
it says in Galatians 5:6 that faith
works by love love is what really
energizes and gives life to faith if you
truly understood the love of God faith
would just be an automatic byproduct so
if you’re saying I just need to
understand some things about faith I
need to grab hold of faith then did you
know that if you would really get hold
of the love of God your faith would work
better some people say well I need
teaching on prosperity I’m struggling in
my financial realm and I need help
understanding that understanding the
love of God is what will make your faith
work and prosperity come as a result let
me give you a quick testimony on that
one that when Jamie and I first got
started in the ministry we made a number
of mistakes and one of them was that I
felt like if I was called to ministry I
had to quit a secular job and I had
full-time out of the ministry and
there’s a partial truth there but you
know until the ministry to get to where
it’s full-time and where it’s occupying
all of my time I really would have been
better off to have worked a job but
anyway I miss missed that and because of
it Jamie and I were struggling
financially and we were going through
some really really hard time and I won’t
spend the whole program here giving you
this is quite a long testimony but I
mean we were in dire straits hadn’t
eaten in over a week we were struggling
and a long story and so we just had
about like a dollar and a quarter left
or something like that just a very
little bit amount of money and Jamie had
to wash clothes we didn’t have a washer
and dryer so we were living in these
apartments in Dallas Texas and she took
our car and drove over to the washeteria
even though it was in the apartment
complex because there was so many
clothes to wash and she took these last
few little quarters and she went and
wash clothes and while she was washing
clothes you know it just really was
getting to me the fact that here I was
trying to serve God trying to be
full-time our needs weren’t being
provided we were facing eviction from
our apartment we hadn’t eaten in weeks
we were just about out of gas I mean we
were just down to nothing and I know
that when some people say that they’re
struggling financially that’s because
they’ve got a thousand dollars in the
bank and eleven hundred dollars worth of
bills I mean we had like a dollar and a
quarter and we were using all of that
money to go watch these little clothes
we had a tiny bit of gas and other than
that we didn’t have a penny we didn’t
have anything we didn’t have a bank
account we didn’t have credit cards we
we were we were close to being in a
desperate situation and I was just
praying and I remember that as Jamie was
over washing these clothes that I was
praying and I wasn’t mad but I was
headed that direction I was disappointed
I was upset I felt like God wasn’t
holding up his end of the bargain and I
was beginning to pray and I was you know
granted hold of God God you’ve got to
come through and anyway I was praying
along these lines and then as I was
praying the Lord just spoke to me I mean
near
in an audible voice it was on the inside
but it was so strong that I recognized
it was God he was totally contrary to
the mindset and the emotions that I was
feeling in experience and he just out of
the blue comes Luke 12:32 and that verse
says fear not little flock for it’s your
father’s good pleasure to give you the
kingdom and again I could explain this
in a lot more detail I’m trying to make
this a quick testimony but it was the
love of God that just turned my life
upside down and started me in a new
direction and because of circumstances
because of a lack of finances because of
some other things I had gotten away from
focusing on how much God loved me I was
more focused on the need than I was on
God and when the Lord spoke this to me
and says fear not little flock it’s your
father’s good pleasure to give you the
kingdom you know what it was a loving
rebuke is what it was I mean it just all
of a sudden my whole attitude changed
and I realized that you know what I was
feeling like God didn’t care about us I
was feeling like I had to state my case
and I had to put pressure on God to make
him do what was right and all of a
sudden through though that one scripture
the Lord just showed me that he loved me
that God was not the one that was
keeping us in these financial problem at
the time I didn’t know what it was but
it was primarily my own stupidity it was
me doing things wrong and not
cooperating with the laws of God that my
heart was right my head was wrong and
you know what God just reassured me of
his love and I mean here I was walking
back and forth praying and when the Lord
spoke to me and said fear not little
flock it’s your father’s a good pleasure
to give you the kingdom I mean I just
fell to my knees I said God I am so
sorry and I started receiving and
remembering God’s love for me other
scriptures came to me like you know if
God spared not his own son but delivered
him up for us all how shall he not with
him freely give us all things out of
Romans chapter 8 and all of a sudden the
love of God just but
and to flow through me and did you know
nothing in the physical change right
then but all of a sudden faith rose I
mean when you really understand how much
God loves you your faith just goes
through the roof
I told Jamie we were gonna eat that day
and for lunch we didn’t eat we went to
church a guy asked us to come over to
his house
long story short but about midnight we
had some food given to us we went home
rushed and prepared it and ate food
before midnight and the next day was my
birthday I had a whole box load of
porterhouse steaks given to us we went
from not eating at all to eating like
kings and I believe that the love of God
was the key that unlocked that door
that’s what we’re gonna be talking about

and now gospel truth continues so I was
talking about God’s kind of love for us
and I know that when I say that a lot of
people think oh I know God’s love and
stuff and yet we’ve still got all of
these problems in our life the
scriptures say that if we really
understood the love of God we would be
filled
with the fullness of God let me share
that with you from Ephesians chapter 3
this is a prayer that Paul prayed for
the Ephesians and he began in verse 14
and he says for this cause I bow my
knees under the father of our Lord Jesus
Christ of whom the whole family in
heaven and earth is named that he would
grant you according to the riches of his
glory to be strengthened with might by
his spirit in the inner man that Christ
may dwell in your hearts by faith that
you being rooted and grounded in love
may be able to comprehend you know
there’s so much in these passages I’m
just pointing out a little thread here
through all of them talking about the
love of God but in verse 17 it says that
you being rooted and grounded in love
then verse 18 says may be able to
comprehend did you know when you start
understanding that God is love first
John chapter 4 verse 8 when you start
experiencing this love of God it just
causes revelation understanding to open
up into your life if you don’t really
have a working revelation of God’s love
for you it blinds you to the Word of God
another way of saying this is that this
is a love letter this is God’s love
letter to you and yet if God has been
misrepresented to you and if you see God
as this harsh judgmental punishing
strict unforgiving unbending unyielding
type of God and if that’s the impression
that you have of him then you’re gonna
miss most of what’s being said in the
Word of God because this really is a
love letter it’s God revealing himself
and showing how much he loves the world
and so you’ve got to be rooted and
grounded in love and then verse 18 says
you will be able to comprehend with All
Saints what is the breadth and length
and depth and height now notice that
there’s dimensions to God’s love again I
say that this is one of the reasons that
I struggle sometimes to teach on the
love of God because
people just now I know that God loves me
and they they’ve got only a surface
knowledge it’s like they’ve just barely
scratched the surface they know that God
loves them and if God didn’t you know
love the world to some degree we would
all be a pile of ashes he would have
destroyed us a long time ago and so they
understand love to a degree they
understand that God isn’t giving us
everything that we deserve but there is
so much more to it there is length and
breadth and height and depth and you’ve
got to be able to plumb the depths of
God’s love is what this is talking about
and I think that so many people stop
with a very superficial understanding of
God’s kind of love and it is not at all
adequate and this scripture is saying
that you should be able to understand
the length the breadth the depth and the
height and then in verse 19 it says and
to know the love of Christ which passeth
knowledge that you might be filled with
all the fullness of God now this verse
sounds like a contradiction it says that
he’s praying that you would know the
love of Christ which passes knowledge if
it passes knowledge then how can you
know it well the explanation for this is
he’s saying that you would experience a
knowing that is an experiential knowing
rather than just a mental understanding
you know there there is just I could go
back into a lot of scriptures and and
spend a lot of time teaching on this but
one of the things that I believe makes
this point very well is in the Old
Testament it says many times things like
in Genesis chapter 4 Adam knew his wife
Eve and she conceived and bore a son and
so that’s talking about an intimacy and
an experiential type of knowledge many
people just have intellectual knowledge
in our Western world today we really put
the emphasis on book learning not
necessarily training disciple in you
know experiential knowledge so what this
is talking about is that if you had
experienced the love of God in its
height depth length and breadth then
that passes mere intellectual knowledge
and I believe that this is what’s
happened to a lot of people a lot of
people have heard somebody say that God
loved them they understand it to a
degree but it’s really intellectual it’s
not a heartfelt a inner core of their
being knowledge that God loves them it’s
just kind of an intellectual knowledge
and to prove that look at this it says
that you might be able to comprehend
with All Saints what is the breadth and
length and depth and height the end to
no experience the love of Christ which
passes just mere knowledge about him and
it says that you might be filled with
all the fullness of God here’s the
results of experiencing God’s love it
says you will be filled with all the
fullness of God so you can turn this
verse around and look at it from the
back to the front and you can address it
this way if you aren’t filled with all
the fullness of God that means love joy
and peace that means healing prosperity
deliverance Hope excitement about the
future if you aren’t full of love God
and full of all of the benefits of God
then according to this verse you don’t
have an experiential a working
experience your knowledge of God’s love
you’ve just got an intellectual
knowledge of God’s love now I know that
by saying that some people take offense
and they sit there and say so you’re
criticizing my level of understanding
God I’m not trying to criticize or put
anybody down but what I’m saying is
here’s what the Bible proclaims that
God’s kind of love if it’s experiential
if it’s working on the inside of you
here’s the results or you could say it
this way here’s the fruit that God’s
kind of love produces now if that’s not
the fruit that you’ve got operating in
your life then you don’t have God’s kind
of love or you don’t have an
experiential knowledge of it maybe it’s
not that you believe something wrong
about God’s kind of love maybe you just
don’t understand the depths of it it
hasn’t become a real revelation to you
but the scripture is saying that this is
what God’s love produces
and my own personal testimony bears this
out this is exactly what happened to me
I got born again when I was eight years
old and the reason I got born again it
was around the Easter time I think it
was an Easter Sunday and the pastor of
the church that we were going to preach
the message on hell and he gave a tour
of hell and talked about the people were
there and of course you know there were
the terrible people the murderers and
the thieves and things like this but
then he also talked about these godly
good-looking people to the world’s way
of thinking that you know had all of the
admiration of the world and that they
were also in hell and man this got my
attention because this was a new wrinkle
in my brain I had never thought that
good people would go to hell but he
began to make the point that it didn’t
matter how good you were who wants to be
the best Center to ever go to hell you
must be born again and that was the
point of his message so this got my
attention and when I went home my dad I
asked him about this and I said so you
know here I was eight years old and I
hadn’t lived a terrible sinful outwardly
you know God hating God rebelling life
and yet it was a new thought to me that
you mean I have to be born again that I
would go to hell if I was to die like
this and he explained the love of God to
me and I got born again and I mean my
life changed and I was only in the third
grade that was on a Sunday that all this
happened the next day on Monday I
remember my friends could tell that I
was different and they said what’s wrong
with you and I told him I got born again
and I had some of my friends criticized
me and make fun of me and reject me
because I had gotten born again even in
the third grade it was a real experience
so what I’m saying is I understood God’s
love to a degree but I didn’t understand
the height the depth the length and the
breadth of it and because of it you know
I wound up having all kinds of problems
I saw people die around me I saw my dad
died when I was 12 years old and I
prayed for him but I didn’t have faith I
didn’t understand that I didn’t operate
in real joy myself I was an introvert I
was fearful of people the scripture says
over in 1st John chapter 4
verse 18 that God’s kind of love perfect
level cast out fear whoever fears has
not been made perfect in love and I
certainly hadn’t cast all fear out of my
life I was afraid of people I was afraid
of rejection I had all of these things
working in my life and yet I was born
again I understood the love of God to a
degree I knew that he wouldn’t send me
to hell I had accepted salvation and my
eternal security was okay but then I had
all of these other things working in me
which were not a that they were proof
that I didn’t understand the depth of
God’s love but then on March the 23rd
1968 when I was 18 years old ten years
after my salvation experience it’s a
long story but God pulled back a curtain
revealed to me how much he loved me and
I mean boom instantly instantly my life
transformed it’s just like this
scripture said I began to start being
filled with all the fullness of God
that’s a process I’m not saying I was
just perfect perfected overnight but I’m
saying that immediately fruit began to
start coming into my life that had never
been there before
immediately faith started rising up I
started believing God for things I had
never believed God for before
immediately I begin to get rid of my
fear of other people immediately I began
to break out of my share shell and I’ve
been growing in it I’m not saying that
I’ve arrived but I’m saying I’ve left
and the thing that caused me to leave in
my life to begin to transform was
understanding God’s supernatural love
for me so I say all of these things in
introduction to this series that we’re
going to be talking about for the next
few weeks talking about God’s kind of
love to you or for you you need to
understand the degree to which God loves
you and when you do your life will begin
to change if your life is not filled
with all the fullness of God you need
this teaching I believe that with all of
my heart so that’s what we’re gonna be
talking about I’m going to continue this
