first Corinthians chapter 9 I’ll begin

reading with verse 24 do you not know

that those who run in a race all run but

one receives the prize run in such a way

that you may obtain it or run that you

might win verse 25 and everyone who

competes for the prize is temperate in

all things now they do it to obtain a

perishable crown but we for an

imperishable crown

therefore I run this way not uncertain

thus I fight not as one who beats the

air but I discipline my body I bring it

into subjection lest when I have

preached to others i myself should

become disqualified Paul is uh Paul is

using sports and athletics to bring

spiritual application to the listeners

from examples that he had seen on the

sports field you know this morning I

want to talk to you and I’m going to use

like he did spiritual applications from

a natural game that we’ve all heard of

today in in basketball it’s five players

against five players both sides play

offense and defense they dribble they

shoot they dunk they pass the ball they

go back and forth there’s one main part

of the game that I want to use today to

help somebody under the sound of my

voice and that is the part of basketball

that’s called rebounding rebounding

skills are essential according to one of

the manuals of the game this is what it

says says if you’re going to be a good

rebounder number one it requires that

you gain inside position on your

opponent number two that you block out

your opponent and that you get the

rebound as a matter of fact there are

people in the NBA players who

their sole purpose for being on the team

is to rebound the ball they are

considered extremely valuable and some

of them cannot shoot a free throw if

their life depended on it they would

miss the shot others of them rarely

score they huff and puff they can’t run

fast they don’t have speed but when the

moment comes that it’s time for someone

who missed the shot and the ball is

going somewhere and they grab it on the

rebound

that’s their moment that they shine and

they make millions and millions of

dollars because of their ability to

rebound they position themselves they

get the ball when it when the shot has

been missed

and keep the enemy from scoring as a

result of their missed opportunity

why rebounding is so important in the

game of basketball is here this is a big

point because they miss a lot of shots

they miss more than they make therefore

they have to learn how to rebound or

they’ll never win it’s rare when a team

even makes 50% of their first time shots

as a matter of fact the highest level of

basketball playing in the NBA the best

teams would hit around 43 percent of

their first shots that means that most

of their shots are missed and it’s up to

somebody to rebound if they have any

hope of winning in college it goes down

to 30% only 30% of the free of the first

shots hit in high school even lower in

other words it’s not just true in

basketball but it’s true in life

rebounding becomes very very important

we’ve all taken shots we’ve made some

we’ve all you know applied for a job and

got it we’ve all had a dream and applied

and tried to get a loan and got it we we

all have tried to get into college or

tried to do this or try to get on a team

and and you were successful you’ve made

the shot and it worked but then all of

have taken the shot and we’ve missed

some have missed in their marriage some

have missed in their dreams some have

missed in opportunities that they had

and they just blew it and they just

messed up now listen to me you get a lot

of attention and praise when you make it

but it’s what you do when you miss it

that determines whether or not you will

succeed it’s what you do when you’re

supposed to rebound that will determine

whether or not you will win in life if

you don’t learn how to rebound you will

give your opponent an opportunity to

take advantage of the times that you

missed and you messed up what do you do

when you expected to hear the swish of

the net and you don’t what do you do

when you don’t hear the crowd cheer what

do you do when you thought you would win

but in reality you lost and you missed

an amazing opportunity

now listen God is not so much concerned

about the missed shot as he is the

opportunity that you have to take

advantage of rebounding god watches more

what you do when you miss and whether or

not you rebound then he does the fact

that you missed the shot and I’m

preaching today that I don’t care what

has happened to you yesterday the Bible

said every morning his mercy is renewed

morning by morning I’m preaching to you

today what Micah said in the seventh

chapter in the eighth verse rejoice not

against me o my enemies when I fall I

shall arise when I sit in darkness the

Lord will be a light unto me you might

have messed up you might have fallen

short you might have missed the mark

but God is for you and you can rebound

and you can arise and you can see that

rebound become a reality and your

marriage and in your home and in your

family I’m preaching today that it’s not

time to give up and sit in the bleachers

I’m preaching the day it’s no time to

quit this is an hour when God says if

you will try I will give you the power

to rebound from anything that is half

in your life everybody take a moment and

thank God for His grace and His mercy

that in powers us to rebound it’s

possible to miss more shots than you

make and still win listen to this great

scripture proverbs 24 and 16 for a just

or a righteous man what is a righteous

man do falls seven times and rises up

again notice that the biblical

definition and standard for being a just

righteous person is falling turn to

somebody and say I’m holier than I

thought I was the biblical definition of

a righteous man the next word says he

falls but he does not fall and stay

there he’s righteous because he gets

back up and he says by the grace of God

I’m going to keep going until I’m an

overcomer by the blood of the Lamb and

the word of my testimony it’s getting up

that makes you righteous it’s rebounding

that makes you righteous through the

blood of Jesus Christ God does not want

you to live in regret and shame and

condemnation the word sin means to miss

the mark and the Bible said all have

sinned that includes you all have sinned

and missed the shot now the fundamentals

of rebounding defensively if you look it

up this is what it’ll tell you here’s

the fundamentals three of them of

rebounding defensively number one it

said keep your knees bent for quick

movement if you want to rebound you have

to learn to keep your knees bent and be

quick to repent and say God I messed up

but I know you’re not through with me

and you won’t leave me where you found

me you won’t forsake me in my weakness

and I’m going to keep my knees bent and

I’m going to pray pray

pray you know the enemy wants to tell

you you’re not good enough to pray

you’re not good enough to love God

you’re not good enough God doesn’t love

you but if you keep your knees bent all

you got to do is beat the accuser to the

throne and say you know what I’m going

to rebound if I’ll keep my knees bent

and I’ll pray and ask God the second

thing it said if you want to rebound

defensively number one keep your knees

bent like this but I’m talking

spiritually get on your knees and pray I

don’t care what you’ve gone through I

don’t care if you’ve been through

bankruptcy divorce if you keep your

knees bent and keep praying the enemy

will not win somehow someway even the

grief the loss of the loved one keep

your knees bent you’re going to rebound

and joy is coming in the morning keep

praying keep talking to God keep talking

to the Holy Spirit keep your knees bent

number two I promise this is what it

says keep your hands in the air if I’ll

keep praying and I’ll keep my hands in

the air and keep praising God no matter

praises the language of faith praise is

saying I know I don’t have the victory

yet but I’m going to learn to sing in

the fire and if you learn to sing in the

fire you’ll come out of the fire

everybody get your hands up in the air

and say Lord I’m a rebounder and I’m

going to keep my hands up and I’m going

to praise you until you restore the

years the cankerworm and the locusts

have stolen from my life I’m not gonna

have a pity party I’m not gonna feel

sorry for myself I’m not gonna go around

saying how bad my life is I’m gonna have

my hands up praising God and my knees

bent talking to God and I will rebound

from whatever life has tried to do to me

keep your knees bent keep your hands in

the air he said the main purpose of

Defense is to stop the offensive team

from dribbling because they know if you

can stop them from dribbling then the

then the

statistics say that they have a higher

chance of missing the shot and if they

have a higher percentage of missing the

shot once they can’t dribble anymore

then guess what you got a higher chance

of rebounding we need to stop the

devil’s dribbling in order to rebound

you have to you have to plant your feet

this is what they said you have to have

a strong base or in other words plant

your feet and box out your enemy that’s

what you do when you come down you you

get in position when you come to the

altar you’re getting in the position to

rebound the enemy would do everything he

can to block you from coming down he’ll

tell you if you need a you need a

rebound in your family don’t walk down

there with your family we think churches

and altars are just for people who are

lost but the truth is many times

marriages need to rebound and families

need to rebound in people’s hopes and

dreams and faith needs a rebound and the

enemy would do everything he can to keep

you out of that position there’s

something about coming to the altar and

saying God I need your help and I need

you to touch my family and touch my

marriage and I don’t care what people

think

I want to position myself for the

rebound you have to do what Joshua did

the Bible said he took five kings and

drugged them out of a cave and told

Israel’s leaders to put your foot on the

neck of the kings that’s what you have

to do to alcohol you have to put your

foot on it and say you’re not going to

destroy my life I’m going to rebound

that’s what you have to do to that drug

addiction that’s what you have to do to

that pornography that’s what you have to

do you have to put your foot on it you

have to say to sin and in adultery and

things and sin and shame in your life

put your foot on it and say you will not

destroy me God’s will for my life is not

to live and regret but I’m going to

recover and I’m going to rebound

Sampson Sampson missed the shot and it

looked like it was over the enemy

stripped him of everything that he had

but in judges 22 it said his hair began

to grow back and I loved the fact that

he removed that he rebounded he planted

his feet and the Bible said he did more

in his end than he did in his beginning

I love that scripture in job that says

your ladder shall be greater than your

former if you will let God he will help

you REBOUND

and your future will be greater than

what’s behind you and your ladder in

will be greater than your former I think

about Simon Peter and many times you

know back in my day when a when a

somebody blocked a shot we would say

denied you were denied

well Peter wasn’t denied but he denied

Jesus three times three times the ball

was put in his hands

three times he had a chance to be a

superstar for the kingdom and say I

believe in that man Jesus Christ I

identify myself with him and three times

he missed the shot he denied Christ

denied Christ denied Christ and the

rooster crowed but there’s this

marvelous scripture in Luke chapter 22

and verse 32 he said Satan hath desired

to sift you Peter Jesus saying but I

have prayed for you that your faith fail

not listen to this and when you are

converted strengthen the brothers in

other words Peter don’t be afraid to

shoot that ball again I don’t want you

going around thinking that I can’t use

you because you denied me and you miss

the first three shots

I’m putting the ball back in your hand

on the day of Pentecost and I’m going to

use you greater than you ever imagined

I’m saying to you there’s no telling

what’s in your future if you’ll just

learn

how to rebound and say I am NOT going to

let this kill and destroy my life my

family my marriage my future my dreams

and my hopes david missed the shot but

God said I still want to use you again

and he did more in his latter end then

before he missed because he was a

rebounder I’m simply saying to you today

I wish that I wouldn’t have done this

somebody saying I wish that I had that

again I wish I could at that moment

freeze that moment and go back I would

do anything but the Lord doesn’t want

you living in the regret of that shame

and guilt and condemnation the rest of

your life and some of you couldn’t even

get your hands up and some of you felt

so condemned while this great music is

going on Satan whispers the accuser

you’re not worthy you’re not good enough

but I’m telling you if you keep your

knees bent and your hands in the air and

you’ll praise God and rely on his blood

and his mercy and his name he will give

you the power to rebound I wish I

wouldn’t have gone there the Lord says

to every family today you can rebound

the Lord says to every marriage you can

rebound this is how we get in front of

our opponent we get in the altar we

position ourselves for the rebound when

we humble ourselves and we walk down an

aisle and we say God I want to rebound I

missed it I wish I could go back but you

know what all I can do is try to rebound

and by your grace I can some of you here

today have physical challenges that you

need to rebound from I heard the story

and I’m gonna close with this but I

heard the story of Fanny Crosby she was

born blind she could have felt sorry for

herself but she pinned these words

blessed a shoe

Laurance Jesus is mine oh what a

foretaste of glory divine

heir of salvation purchase of God born

of his spirit I’m washed in his blood

Oh hands in the air praising all the day

knees are bent and my hands are up Oh

day long and then I close a promise you

stand to your feet but there was this

guy named mr. Spofford he was sending

for his family was a preacher in sending

for his family from England they were

coming across on a ship halfway across a

storm comes and the ship sinks and all

four of his daughters perish and when

his daughters perish and his wife it

breaks his heart he gets on a ship a few

weeks later goes out into the Atlantic

and when he gets out he asked the

captain would you awaken me when you get

to the spot where the ship went down

that was carrying my four daughters and

my wife and when he did he woke him up

at two o’clock in the morning and mr.

Spofford walked out and he grabbed a pen

and a piece of paper and he began to

write the words when peace like a river

attendeth my soul when sorrows like sea

billows roll whatever my lot thou has

taught me to say

it is well that’s called a rebound it is

well with my soul what can separate me

from the love of God nothing it is well

with my soul and I’m saying to people

today that you can rebound from that

addiction you can rebound in your

marriage in your home and your family

but you have to position yourself you

have to bow your knees bend your knees

you have to raise your hands and say I

need a Savior I surrender and if you

will His grace will come running to you

and it’s not important that you miss the

shot it’s important what you do now is

rebound listen to this scripture 2nd

Timothy 2 and that they may rebound

themselves notice God’s not going to do

it all they may rebound themselves out

of the snare of the devil if they’ll

come running to me position yourself to

rebound bend your knee raise your hand

and accept Jesus he’ll help you every

head bowed every eye closed you’re in

this room today you would say pastor

Franklin I need to rebound in my life I

need a change I need a miracle of grace

I need forgiveness I need a new start

pray for me

if that’s you right where you are

quickly when I count to 3 raise your

hand 1 2 3 raise that hand all over this

ring every one of you that have your

hand raised slip out of your seat and

come stand right down here position

yourself don’t let me enter me get the

inside position position yourself

something will happen the moment you

step out of that aisle

something will happen the moment that

you move toward God something will

happen

the moment that you humble yourself and

bend your knee here they come here they

come here they come here they come here

they come here they come here they come

here they come come on come on come on

come on come on come on this is a

miracle come on come on no matter what

you’re going through you may have been

going through a divorce somebody’s

listening to me and your marriage is

going through a divorce and the enemy

says you’ll never have joy again but God

has a rebound in your future don’t give

up don’t give up come position yourself

for the rebound let’s say these words

Lord Jesus I receive you today as my

Lord and Savior I’m ready

by your grace by the blood that you shed

on the cross I can rebound in my life I

missed it but I’m confessing I’m bending

my knee I’ll do this I’m raising my

hands in an act of surrender come on get

your hands up all over this room I

surrender my life I surrender my body I

surrender my family I surrender my wheel

my hands are up I’m ready for my rebound

restore my life Jesus restore my dreams

Jesus I receive you as my Lord and as my

Savior I am forgiven

I shall arise I will rebound it begins

now in Jesus mighty name oh we thank you

lord

Bobby and I have lived in Haiti for 22

years but you come here when you guys

leave we’re still in Haiti so we walk

around with the people we hear their

stories and we cry I mean there’s times

that I just had to walk away from the

village and cry because my heart is

broken but on behalf of the Haitian

people the mothers who have children the

grandmothers I just want to say thank

you with all my heart you and your

partners you’ve done something that you

have no idea what you’ve done in helping

these people you’ve lifted up the beggar

out of the dunghill and you put them

among the princes they feel like there

are prints in a palette just like that

scripture says when Hannah’s prayer

she says he lifts up the beggar out of

the dung Hill they were in the dummy old

pastor here in the dung Hill you and

your partners took him from the dung

Hill and you put them in a palace and

the scripture is true that is more

blessed to give especially you know

being here again seeing today the food

distribution centre and the food going

out by the truckloads just just tons and

tons of food going out to some of the

roads most remote regions in the world

and some of the most needy people

literally starving to death if that food

doesn’t reach them and it’s overwhelming

it’s touching that’s powerful and I’m

just thankful you know for the

opportunity it is more blessed to give

than it is to receive thank you
