it’s so wonderful to be here with you
I’m excited we’re starting a new series
today entitled understanding the Holy
Spirit God’s been moving in our churches
from campus to campus even our online
church God’s been feeling people with
his spirit and we’re just gonna keep
going from glory anybody want to keep
going from glory to glory can anybody
just want to run on and see what the end
of this thing is gonna be I can tell you
right now it’s gonna be glorious I want
to draw your attention to Genesis
chapter 1 if you have a difficult time
finding it we’re gonna have a special
prayer service right after this service
Genesis chapter 1 we’re gonna read the
first three verses Genesis chapter 1 it
says in the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth I love that it
says in the beginning God in other words
God was already there before the
beginning he has no beginning he has no
end hallelujah anyway since the earth
was without form and void and darkness
was on the face of the deep I won’t get
into some of the theological
implications there but I will say this
that anytime God is getting ready to do
something new to create something new we
will have to go through a season a
formlessness I feel the Holy Ghost this
is the Potters house right and
everything that the Potter creates has
to go through on its way to becoming
what the king envisions on its way to
getting there it has to go through a
space and a season of formlessness so
maybe you were right
did she smack it in the middle of the
process of God if you feel like you
haven’t found your form yet you haven’t
found your shape yet that was for free
the earth was without form and void and
darkness was on the face of the earth
I love this this is the first time that
the Spirit of God is introduced in
scripture says in the midst of this
amazing thing that God is getting ready
to do says the Spirit of God hovering
hallelujah was hovering over the face of
the deep and then God said in verse
three and then God said let there be
light and there was light and we’re
gonna understand more about the spirit
and the spirits role in the
functionality of God let’s pray father
thank you so much for this moment that
you’ve brought us all into thank you for
bringing us together giving us the mind
to be in your house today giving us the
heart to pursue you and to go deeper in
the things that pertain to you I thank
you God for your rich and radical love
that all of us are even baptized and
right now love that cast out all fear
hallelujah love that heals every
insecurities love that rebukes doubt
hallelujah
love that affirms us in who we are love
that elicits the confession that we can
do all things through Christ who
strengthens us we thank you for that
love now god I thank you that you’ve got
a word for us today in fact you’ve got a
series II a series of words is you’re
gonna enlighten us with today for some
it will be refresher but I believe that
it will be rich in Revelation insight
and understanding that we might fight a
good fight
and lay hold of all of your promises god
I thank you for the spirit of wisdom and
revelation and insight knowledge I thank
you that you have blessed not only me
but everybody in here with every
spiritual blessing in heavenly places
and we call forth those spiritual
blessings God that they might amalgamate
in this moment so that we could have a
powerful encounter with you and never
leave you the same and if you believe
those things help me say a man in Jesus
name come on hallelujah god bless you
you may be seated
let’s get into this let me begin by by
saying that this teaching and this
understanding that I’m gonna lay out for
our churches over the next several weeks
I think are most likely the most
critical insights I’ve ever gained as it
relates to walking with God and it has
more than likely I believe it has been
the sole reason for me being able to
stick with God
growing God and ultimately be
continuously blessed by God not just
naturally but more importantly even
spiritually in other words what I’m
given today was something that God began
to teach me very early on when I started
walking with God and there’s a
difference between walking with God and
accepting God how many there’s a
difference I accepted God when I was 9
years old I didn’t start walking with
God until I was 26 years old and and
quite frankly I did not know that I
could even walk with God I didn’t even
know that you could do such a thing the
extent of my relationship with God is
that I feared him I revered him I
revered God I believed in God but the
extent of my relationship was that which
I would do what I want to do and because
God was good and God was gracious I
would ask for forgiveness and I’d be
forgiven and the reality of it is all
that’s true I was forgiven but there was
another level turning into their levels
they know there’s levels levels of this
faith and God began to show me some of
the things that we’re going to talk
about today and it radically transformed
my life radically and so the reason why
I thought it was important to as we seek
to understand the spirit the reason why
I thought it was important to go back
all the way to the beginning is to to
hopefully help us to glean some of the
characteristics and some of the
functions of functionalities of the
Spirit because what is interesting about
the Holy Spirit particularly as we look
at that passage is that is the only time
in scripture in the very beginning it’s
the only time where the Holy Spirit was
not associated with a human being it
says the Spirit of God as God is getting
ready to create the heavens and the
earth and ultimately mankind the Spirit
was there and the Spirit is hovering
every time you see the Spirit of God
after that it was the Spirit of God
falling upon someone the Spirit of God
feeling someone the Spirit of God
leading someone the spirit of God in
some sort of way benefiting someone and
one of the things that I want you to
understand right after right off the bat
you should be taking notes today for
sure I’m when I wear this that means it
I’m not really gonna preach it means I’m
gonna teach some of you don’t believe
that my goal I wear this because if I
get the mic in my hand yeah and I don’t
want to do that today cuz we got we got
some stuff to learn so I want you to
take notes if you’re taking notes write
this down the Holy Spirit is the
activation aspect of God the Holy Spirit
is almost like God’s enforcer when God
wants to have something happen in the
earth the Holy Spirit becomes the
activation agent of God when God wants
to do something in the earth he does it
through the Holy Spirit
it’s the activation agent of God and his
job but notice I say his job the Holy
Spirit has done it I know we
call it an it but that is inaccurate the
Holy Spirit is a whom and the who is
Jesus and the who is the father and the
who was the Holy Spirit so the Holy
Spirit is the Father the Son and the
Holy Spirit all in one and his
assignment is to activate the intentions
of God are you tracking with me his job
watch this is to move to you say to you
is to move to you his job is to move in
you in you his job is to move through
you and his job is to move in the earth
now i’ma say it again his job is to move
to you to move in you to move through
you and to move in the earth I’m gonna
give you five things as it relates to
the Holy Spirit five things that the
Spirit does and we’re gonna look at some
passages and we’re gonna grow this
morning
the first thing that the Holy Spirit
does is the Holy Spirit engages you I
love this the Holy Spirit engages you
that means that you don’t necessarily
even have to seek the spirit out the
Spirit will seek you out the spirit
knows you the spirit loves you the
spirit is for you and the spirit also
understands that without him you can do
nothing so the Spirit of God did you
know that you can’t even come to the
Lord without the spirit engaging you and
drawing you did you know that this is
the love of God and many people get
confused and they start talking about
you know I just can’t believe that the
God you know what about the people who
have never heard the gospel or what
about the people that live way up in the
mountains and the heels of China oh and
all these sort of things and they make
it it’s almost like that they make it
like God is ignorant the Holy Spirit
will engage every soul that enters
to this existence with truth let me show
you go to first Corinthians chapter 12
verse 3 it says therefore Paul’s
teaching he says therefore I’ve make
known to you that no one speaking by the
Spirit of God calls jesus accursed and
no one can say that Jesus is Lord except
by the Holy Spirit so we can’t even
confess you think that it is your
confession that Jesus is Lord but the
reality of it is it is because the
Spirit of God has engaged you the Spirit
engages you Jesus says behold I stand at
the door and knock if anyone hears my
voice and opens up I will which leads me
to number two I will come in the Spirit
of God not only does he engage you but
the spirit enters you so he works on the
outside then he comes on the inside let
me show you something really quickly let
me show you who the Spirit is go to John
real quick John chapter 14 verses were
reverses 15 through 17 Jesus says if you
love me keep my Commandments and then he
says and I will pray the father and he
will give you another helper that he may
abide with you forever
the context is this Jesus is saying I’m
about to get up out of here I’ve got to
fulfill my mission in my destiny and I
know that you are concerned because
since you’ve been with me you have been
comforted by me since you’ve been with
me I have taught you since you’ve been
with me you have lacked nothing since
you’ve been with me you have tasted and
experience my power and so at the notion
that he is withdrawing himself he is
beginning to put a little bit of
uncertainty and a little bit of
uneasiness in his disciples and now he
has to begin to teach them and so he
says so he says now I’m going to send a
helper that is going to abide with you
forever
in verse 17 he says the Spirit of Truth
whom the world cannot receive because it
neither sees him the Spirit of Truth is
a him nor knows him but you know him for
he dwells with you and will be where in
you so the Holy Spirit I love it he is
in full control he engages you to open
up to Christ and and consequently enter
into the family of faith but he doesn’t
just stay outside of you when you open
up to God he comes to live in you just
tell your neighbor I’ve got the Holy
Spirit I’ve got I’ve got the Holy Spirit
I’ve got the Holy Spirit got the Holy
Spirit and I want to show you something
that further corroborates the point that
he enters you let’s go to Ephesians
chapter 1 verse 13 through 14 love this
Paul is teaching again he says in him
you also trusted after you heard the
word of truth so so when someone who has
the Holy Spirit speaks the word of truth
that is the Holy Spirit speaking to you
knocking on the door of your heart to
get you to open up right so he says
after you heard the word of truth the
gospel of your salvation in whom also
having believed so when you have
believed it says you were sealed with
the Holy Spirit of promise who is the
guarantee of our inheritance until the
redemption of the purchased possession
to the praise of his glory so once you
open and believe the Holy Spirit seals
you that word in the Greek literally
means stamps you or marks you for the
promise you’re on to something
you’re on to something but this is just
at the beginning because the job of the
Holy Spirit is to ultimately take you on
a journey is to take you on a journey
ultimately of transformation it gets
good see when I was 9 your
so and I just embrace God all I knew
about God was that was that I was you
know if I got into trouble he bailed me
out if I made a mistake if I cut up he
would forgive me I wasn’t I didn’t even
know that there was a journey someone
you know what I’m talking about I didn’t
even know that you could grow in God I
didn’t even know I didn’t know what I
had Oh hallelujah and maybe there’s
somebody under the sound of my voice
right now and the reason why I perhaps
you’re getting your butt kicked in life
can I say that in church I just did
right the reason why you’re getting your
butt kicked in life is because you don’t
know what you have the scripture says
that my people are destroyed for lack of
knowledge the Word of God says the truth
will set you free no it doesn’t the Word
of God says know the truth and the true
self set me free
ignorance is not bliss what if I have
something on the inside of me that will
fight off every devil every I feel God
every demon what if there was something
already on the inside of me that was the
guarantee of everything that God
promised me if you know that you’ve got
something great only inside of you I
tell you to take about eight seconds and
give God praise for it greater is He Who
is in me than he who is in the world I
got some do me a favor
come on LA come on dimmer put your hand
on your belly and say I’ve got something
I’ve got something I’ve got something a
lorry – God I got something I got
something I got something hallelujah
I got something an enemy want to kill
you before you realize that you got
something oh god I feel the Lord greater
is He Who is in you than he who was in
the world and I since this is for
somebody you’ve been chasing man you’ve
been chasing men if I can get in the
right room if I can get the right
meeting I feel the Lord if I can get in
the right meeting you know what type of
meeting you need to have you need to
have a prayer meeting you need to get
with two or three people that can see in
the spirit that will stir up the gift of
God that’s only inside of you you need
to have a meeting with the one who put
it in you number three number three
number one he engages you we’re just
getting started family number two he
enters you you got something the moment
that you believe the spirit calls you to
believe and then once you actually
believed in the spirit said now I can
make my home in you Oh hallelujah now
things are gonna get good now things are
gonna be powerful now I’m gonna teach
you how to walk with me the third thing
that happens the third thing that the
Spirit does is the spirit empowers you
this empowers you we’ll go to Romans
chapter 7 the spirit empowers you now
you have a utility the Spirit of God
becomes a divine utility that begins to
help you notice I said helper that means
you’re gonna need help in order to walk
this thing out it’s this divine utility
that you begin to use to restrain to
subdue and to mortify your flesh oh
let’s take let’s learn let’s learn
Romans chapter 7 I love this this is so
true and we’re gonna do we’re gonna
cover a lot of ground Romans chapter 7
this is Paul and he is breaking down his
process his journey to get to where you
and I ultimately gonna end up but he’s
talking about what
he went through before he recognized and
realized what he had in the spirit it
says for what am i doing Paul says for
what I am doing I do not understand he
was perplexed by a certain situation and
maybe this will resonate with some of
you
he says for what I’m doing I do not
understand he says for what I will to do
what I desire to do that I do not
practise so I desire to do something it
is in my heart to do it right but I
don’t practice it I don’t do it and then
he says but what I hate what I desire
not to do that I do anybody ever been
there before let me keep reading imma

he says if then I do what I will not to
do then there’s a part of me that agrees
with the law that it is good in other
words there is something in me that is
letting me know right from wrong he says
but now it is no longer I who do it but
sin that dwells in me that’s first of
all extremely powerful because some
people are charging the real you with
what the false you does oh I feel the
Holy Ghost but Paul is being a master
surgeon hallelujah and he is dissecting
humanity with a very fine incision
because he is ultimately beside it oh
I’m excited
Paul is ultimately acknowledging that
there are two versions of him in him and
he is being a master surgeon a master
surgeon drawing a line of demarcation
that is so fine that he does not condemn
himself because to condemn the whole of
him is to condemn the good part of him
he’s saying that’s not me
I’m not doing it my flesh is doing it I
can’t kill me because if I kill me the
real me will die and I know that there’s
a good me in there because the good me
hates what the false me is doing are you
tracking with me
he is dissecting this thing it’s amazing
let’s keep reading keep reading keep
reading he says but now it is no longer
I who do it but sin that dwells in me
for I know that in me that is my flesh
nothing could dwell he is introducing
the reality of something that we all
have and it’s called our carnality or
our flesh and we’re going to learn
throughout these weeks that there’s a
part of us that is against us
it is the enemy with enemy are you
tracking with me you got to know this
this was revolutionary for me when I
first started walking with the Lord
right let’s keep reading I see we got
see you again and then he goes on to say
so he says for that in me that is in my
flesh nothing that dwells for to will is
present with me but how to perform what
is good I do not find for the good that
I
to do I do not do but the evil I will
not to do that always has anybody ever
been there can I talk to some real
people in there you you said look I’m
not doing it anymore this is over and
then the next morning you God forgive me
please
you don’t say do you think that’s okay
now if I do what I will not to do it is
no longer I who do it I’m in verse 20
but sin that dwells in me somewhat
repetitive I find then a law that evil
is present with me the one who wills to
do good evil is present with me so he’s
saying me who Who am I
I am the real me is the one who wills to
do good but yet the one who wills to do
good has evil president I can’t shake it
I know it’s not getting me any closer to
God can’t shake this thing he is in this
desperate position he continues in verse
22 he says for I delight in the law of
God according to the inward man but I
see another law in my members warring
against the law of my mind I know what
to do but I can’t do it and this other
enemy is bringing me into captivity to
the law of sin which is in my members
and he says o wretched man that I am he
says who will deliver me from the body
of this death it is one thing to not
have a conscience if you don’t have a
conscience you’re good pigs like mud and
slop they don’t have a problem being in
the mind
come on somebody but there’s some
animals that do not like being in the
mud they feel out of their element in
the slop and what Paul is saying
essentially is that this is driving me
nuts and I feel like this word is coming
to somebody right on time because the
Spirit is filling you but there’s a war
going on over your identity and there’s
you’re trying to get something’s broken
off in your life you’re trying to really
walk this thing out and I hear God
saying your future is dependent on it
your destiny is dependent on it because
I’ve got to train you I’ve got to teach
you how to walk Wood I gotta teach you
how to walk with me and I’m gonna teach
you and the reality of it is I’ve got a
teacher in you if you will learn how to
yield oh we’re gonna get it today so
Paul says man who’s gonna deliver me
from this body of death I can’t go on
like this and then he says I thank God
through Jesus Christ our Lord he’s like
that’s the answer and then he says so
then with the mind I myself serve the
law of God but with the flesh the law of
sin but see we think that it ends right
there because the chapter ends but it
actually rolls right into Romans 8 and
he says there is therefore now no
condemnation to those who are in Christ
Jesus and then this is added to teach us
who do not walk according to the flesh
but according to the spirit oh my god I
didn’t know I had a choice I didn’t know
I had a choice I thought that
my only option was to walk according to
my flesh because my flesh seems so
dominant like my flesh seems so dominant
it seems so overwhelming I see and I
just respond or something happens to me
and I just respond or something comes in
my mind and I just respond I didn’t know
that I had a choice
see see when you receive of the Spirit
you have a seed of the power of God on
the inside of you now here is the
challenge here is the challenge you have
been accustom to your flesh longer your
relationship with your flesh is more
fortified hey can I teach today yeah
yeah your relationship with your flesh
your your partnership with your flesh
you have had all your life and you call
it doing you
come on somebody Burger King style
having it your own way
simply because you didn’t know that
there was something else moving in you
can I take my time and teach today so
the spirit empowers you the spirit is
who you want to be but can’t seem to
ever be the spirit in you is who you
want to be is who you desire to be it’s
who you wish you could be I wish I could
love like that I wish I could forgive
like that I wish I could believe like
that I wish I could live like that and
the reality of it is you can you can
that’s good news some of you have been
frustrated because you’ve been trying to
be something and you’ve been falling
short of it because you’ve been trying
to be it in your own might in your own
strength and I hear God say it’s not
gonna happen in your own life it’s not
gonna happen in your own strength let me
tell you how this thing is gonna happen
it’s gonna happen by my spirit do you
understand what you have received when
you receive me let me tell you something
right now
religion won’t fix that you’re not ready
you know ready religion won’t fix that
religion does it kill flesh Tana has a
fun today religion doesn’t kill flesh
what he’s talking about the law that’s
what he’s talking about rules don’t kill
the flesh in fact what rules will do is
cloak the flesh religion will cloak the
flesh and even justify the flesh it’s
quiet now it’s quiet now religion will
justify hate okay now when I say
religion when I say religion I’m not
talking about religion as the practice
of spirituality that’s actually
productive when I refer to religion I’m
referring to the myopic the myopic
approach to practicing rules tradition
and dogma that will not help you that’s
why you can have a church full of people
who have known the Lord all their life
that had nothing like the Lord that have
known the Lord all their life and are
mean and loveless thank God we don’t
have that in our churches praise the
Lord thank you for not being religious
religion can’t kill flesh that’s Paul’s
whole point the only thing that can kill
flesh is the spirit let’s keep reading a
little further in Romans 8 let’s go to
Roman’s
verse 8 chapter 5 it says for those who
live according to the flesh set their
mind on the things of the flesh but
those who live according to the spirit
they set their minds on the things of
the Spirit these are disciplines right I
since I know that there are two Me’s in
me then I have to be intentional about
the one I feed I’ll show to turbo hey
the party started now hello yeah since I
know since I know that there’s two of me
I have to enter into my prayer closet
everyday and kill one of them
two of us
I’ll go walk in this prayer closet but
only one of us is coming about this
thing because I’m not gonna let the
sabotage version of me win this day so I
call my prayer closet and I stop bind it
and I start rebuking come on somebody
and I start reading because I gotta feed
the right version of me because if I
don’t feed the right version of me
by default the other version of me is
fair come on somebody if you know you
are in a fight you are in a war every
single day things are coming at you to
stir your flesh Oh hallelujah every day
one of us and coming out here Lots
and it ain’t gonna be me because there’s
a part of me that looks like me that
talks like me that drives my same car
that wears my clothes that’s trying to
swallow me that’s trying to sabotage me
that’s trying to keep me from everything
that God has for me but when I looked in
the mirror I say not today devil you are
gonna die today
you don’t die today and the way you kill
your flesh your flesh is naturally and
organically killed by the feeding of the
Spirit what you feed will reign in your
life you can listen to everything if it
brings out the freaking you I said it I
said it if every time you put that on
you start filling a counter way is
simple don’t put that on no more if
every time you watch the show you
picking up your phone don’t watch the
show anymore how bad do you want the
Spirit of God to be manifest in your
life I don’t play with that I don’t play
with my flesh my flesh is dangerous I’ll
lose my marriage over my flesh I lose my
ministry over my flesh I lose my money
over my flesh it is nothing to play with
trying to rob me uh-huh it ain’t worth
it I’ll kill you every morning and every
time you try to rise up imma shake you
again sell me out tell about the devil
you you can just put the devil don’t
have to do nothing your flesh is enough
to handle here’s why you can cast out a
devil
you can’t cast out flesh hey come on
you can’t disciple the demon nor can you
cast our flesh you gotta kill it can we
go a little further no further no
further no further I feel the spirit of
lowers so so watch this we’re back in
Romans 8 verse 6 it says for to be
carnally minded is death but to be
spiritually minded is life and peace
because the carnal mind is enmity
against God the carnal mind is enmity
against God it says for it is not
subject to the law of God nor indeed can
be so then those who watch this those
who are in the flesh cannot please God
because there’s nothing in the flesh
that moves God let’s jump down to verse
11 it says but if the spirit of him who
raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you
he who raised Christ from the dead will
also give life to your mortal bodies
through his spirit who dwells in you
therefore brethren we are debtors not to
the flesh to live according to the flesh
but watch this for if you live according
to the flesh you will die but if by the
spirit you put to death the deeds of the
body you will live
for as many as are led by the Spirit of
God these are the sons of God
spirit engages you the spirit enters you
the spirit empowers you number four the
spirit evolves you the spirit evolves
you now I want us to go to Romans
chapter 12 verse one I want you to see
something that maybe you had never seen
before
Romans chapter 12 verse 1 because we
know that Romans chapter 12 verse 1 it’s
all about going from glory to glory and
we understand that but going from glory
to glory is just as much about burying
your flesh as it is raising your divine
consciousness say it again going from
glory to glory is just as much about
killing and crucifying your flesh I feel
that for some of you the old rabbi shai
this is prophetic the only thing that is
keeping you from your spouse is your
flesh just catch it we’ll move on but
i’ma say it again right the only thing
that’s keeping you from your spouse is
your flesh all right so so Romans 12 and
1 we love this
renewing your mind all that’s wonderful
right but there’s something else in
Romans 1 Romans 1 Romans 12 rather and
one says Paul says this I beseech you I
urge you I beg of you I compel you
therefore brethren by the mercies of God
that you present your bodies a living
sacrifice right down to present your
bodies a living sacrifice he is asking
us to drag our flesh into the presence
of God what do you do at a sacrifice you
kill something
yes he’s calling it a living sacrifice
so you can’t kill all of it but what you
do is when you worship what you worship
God one of the number one things you
ought to be doing when you worship God
is bringing your raggedy stuff your
flesh just track and sometimes you got a
drag because they don’t want to go yeah
angle it in the princess your flesh like
Ayanna
I ain’t going in the presence I know
what that’s about and sometimes you got
to drag your drama and body slamming
right there at the altar before we even
get to to the transformation by the
renewing of your mind the first step to
that whole thing
the first step to your evolution you’re
evolving going from glory to glory is to
take your fresh every single day and
drag it into the closet your prayer
closet the presence of God where that is
you know I was thinking the other day I
feel like working out and even diet are
not only worthy and worthwhile
and when I say died I’m not about going
down time on what you eat the discipline
of a healthy diet and the discipline of
exercising and working out I saw it in a
new way I saw it as as this lifestyle
that not only helps me naturally but
reduces the type of way of being that
will help me spiritually if I can say no
to this maybe in the spirit I can say no
to that
it may be fasting it’s not simply about
going deeper or getting a revelation or
getting breakthrough what if fasting is
helping me to get my body in check so
that my flesh won’t rule over me the
spirit engages you I’m out of time the
spirit enters you the spirit empowers
you the spirit evolves you number five
the spirit expresses you the spirit
expresses you if we look at Romans
chapter 12 verse 1 it says I beseech you
therefore brethren by the mercies of God
that you present your bodies a living
sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God
which is your reasonable service and do
not be conformed to this world you
cannot come form if you come form you
will be stuck in your flesh don’t
conform you your whole job is to
transform to be transformed so that you
can transform right don’t be conformed
to this world but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind that you may prove
this that you might actualize you might
realize that you might accomplish that
you might achieve what is that good and
acceptable and perfect will of God for
your life what what does that mean that
means that that there is a real version
of you before I formed you in your
mother’s womb God says I knew you before
I formed you I knew you and then here we
read that after we we drag ourselves
into the presence of God to be
transformed after we get a revelation of
the flesh and our spirit and those
warring dimensions and dynamics in our
lives and as we understand that we’ve
got to feed it and we’ll be
think about this for weeks but that we
have to feed it with prayer with the
right things with the right the right
relationships right we feed our spirit
and we drag again that into the
atmosphere of God and we we get to that
atmosphere and new thoughts begin to
come and new ideas a a new nature begins
to take over because I want to tell you
something when you first start it seems
like things are equal I call it the
flesh the Spirit ratio and when you
first get saved the flesh is strong in
your life I feel this somebody’s life is
getting ready to change forever today
when we first get saved or even when
we’ve been saved for a while but we
don’t understand these truths the flesh
to spirit ratio sometimes is 99 flesh 1

believe that some of you are going to
get to a place where your flesh is gonna
