Welcome to our Thursday’s broadcast of

the Gospel truth today I’m going to

continue teaching about the life of

Joseph and I’ve written this little

brief 50-page introduction to lessons

from Joseph and that is just a small

summary of this 200 Page book that this

is the first time we’ve offered this

it’s a brand new book on lessons from

Joseph and uh we are asking for a

second week and so I’ve already covered

a lot of material I’ve laid a foundation

in the life of Joseph and so much of

what we’re sharing is based on that

those previous things that we’ve seen

you Joseph is a wonderful example he

ought to be an inspiration to everybody

he kept a good attitude through things

that most of us have never never had to

deal with most of us have never been

hated by our family so that they tried

to kill us most of us have never been

sold into slavery I mean coming from the

favored son son being wealthy to being a

slave most of us have never gone through

that and then even after he proved

himself faithful and kept his attitude

right he was lied about by the Master’s

wife and put into prison most of us have

never been sold into slavery most of us

have never been lied about and accused

of rape that we weren’t guilty of and

then put into prison and then still have

a good attitude and even when you do

good job in prison the people that you

help and you help promote them they

forget you and you just sit there and

for two years rot in

prison most of us have never been

through that and yet Joseph maintained a

great attitude through it all he never

got bitter he never got depressed he

never got into these things and some

people say how do you know that because

you don’t have you don’t have the

promotion that the scriptures shows that

he got everywhere you don’t promote

people that are depressed bitter angry

hating God God and things like that

Joseph is a great example of a person

who for 13 years endured nothing but

negative things and yet maintained his

faith in the Lord if Joseph did it you

can do it so we’re now into the 41st

chapter of Genesis this is where Pharaoh

dreamed two dreams and he couldn’t find

anybody to interpret them he knew that

they were from God I mean this made an

impression on him you know God speaks to

me through dreams a lot and there’s some

dreams that I have that are just silly

and foolish I mean they they have no

meaning to it like where you’re running

uh you know as fast as you can and yet

you aren’t getting anywhere or something

like that there’s some things that I

don’t know what that means but there’s

times that I’ve had dreams that I know

it was from God one of the most

important things that happened to me I

think happened in 201 uh 14 and I had a

dream and I mean God spoke to me and it

woke me up I sat straight up in bed and

God spoke to me I’ve had God speak to me

through dreams many times and so Pharaoh

knew that these dreams were from

God and yet nobody could interpret them

and so the chief Butler finally came to

himself and said man I’ve I’ve sinned

there was a man in prison who

interpreted my dream and it came to pass

he interpreted the chief uh Baker’s

dream and it came to pass with him and

and I believe that this man could

interpret your dream so Pharaoh sent and

called for him and I ended yesterday’s

program saying that uh Joseph cleaned

himself up put on clean clothes and

shaved himself and made himself

presentable and there’s so many people

today that are wanting to be promoted

they’re wanting people to follow them

and yet they don’t even present

themselves well physically and again I I

don’t believe that you have to put on a

you know A1 thousand suit every every

day you don’t have to dress to the nines

we have a kind of a casual society that

I like a lot of it but I still don’t

dress uh sloppy and uh there’s a lot of

young people today that just don’t

realize that that’s not the way to do

things you know JC Penney which a lot of

the younger people won’t recognize but

JC Penney used to be one of the greatest

retailers alive in his day and the JC

Penny stores they were wor worldwide and

I mean he was multi-millionaire and and

very very very successful and there’s a

story about Mr penny that when he was

going to hire some of his management POS

positions he would take these PE people

out to eat and if they salted their food

before they tasted it he wouldn’t hire

them and somebody might think well

that’s terrible to reject the person

over that but his logic was that they

are people that just do things by habit

they’re just to Salt their food they

hadn’t even tasted it they don’t know if

it needs to be salted or not and a

person who wasn’t more objective than

that and they just did things because

it’s the way it’s always been done he

didn’t want people like that in

management now you can criticize him if

you want to but he built one of the

largest retail outlets the history of

the world and at his time it probably

was the biggest retail thing and it was

because he had some values and stuff and

he valued things like that you may

dislike that but I’m telling you it’s

it’s succeeded you may have one of these

attitudes that you ought to be sloppy

and you ought to be able to dress any

way you want to and everybody else has

to adjust to you I tell you that

attitude is not going to get you

promoted so anyway I dealt with that

yesterday so after Joseph came this is

Genesis 41:15 and Pharaoh said unto

Joseph I have dreamed a dream and there

is none that can interpret it and I have

heard say of thee that thou cast

understand a dream to interpret it and

Joseph answered Pharaoh saying it is not

in Me God shall give Pharaoh an answer

of Peace again this is a reflection of

who Joseph was here Joseph was all of a

sudden promoted in standing before the

most important person on the planet as

far as position and power and authority

goes and the the person is saying I hear

that you can interpret dreams he was

elevating Joseph and saying

complimentary things and did you know

that Joseph just immediately deflected

all the praise and the glory to God and

said it’s not in me it’s not my ability

it’s God in Me Now again there’s very

few people that would do that if

somebody in a great position of

authority gave you a compliment with

singing your Praises most people would

just accept it but Joseph it’s not that

he denied that God had used him and that

God interpreted these dreams if Joseph

would have just said oh I can’t do it I

nothing I have nothing and I can do

nothing well then Pharaoh wouldn’t have

listened to him and nothing would have

happened he but he deflected the praise

and gave it to the Lord and that really

shows you that he his identity was in

the Lord and this is the same thing that

was back in the 39th chapter when he was

standing on an auction block he was

still a prosperous man even though he

was stripped naked and being sold into

slavery and when he was in prison even

though most people would look at that as

man you can’t get much lower than that

that he was still having his identity in

the Lord and so here he is being

complimented by the strongest man on the

planet and he’s giving all the glory to

God man what a great attitude and so in

verse 17 Pharaoh said unto Joseph in my

dream behold I stood upon the bank of

the river and behold there came up out

of the river seven kind fat fleshed and

well favored and they fed in a meadow

and behold seven other kind came up

after them poor and ill-favored

and lean flesh such as I have never seen

in all the land of Egypt for Badness and

the lean and the ill-favored kind did

eat up the first seven fat kind and when

he had eaten them up it could not be

known that they had eaten them for they

were still ill-favored as at the

beginning so I awoke and I saw in my

dream and behold seven ears came up on

one stalk full and good and behold seven

ears withered thin and blasted with the

East Wind sprung up after them and the

thin ears devoured the seven good ears

and I told this unto The Magicians but

there was none that could declare it

unto me and Joseph said unto Pharaoh the

dream of pharaoh is one and other words

these two dreams were making one point

is the point that he was making and so

um he said unto him the dreams of

pharaoh are one uh what God is about to

do he shows up to Pharaoh what he is

about to do and in verse 26 the seven

good kind are seven ears and the Seven

good ears are seven years the dream is

one and the Seven thin and ill-favored

kind that came up after them are seven

years and the Seven empty ears blasted

with the East Wind shall be seven years

of famine this is the thing which I have

spoken unto Pharaoh what God is about to

do he showeth unto Pharaoh behold there

come seven years of great plenty

throughout all the land of Egypt and

there shall arise after them seven years

of famine and all of the Plenty shall be

forgotten in the land of Egypt and the

famine shall consume the land and the

Plenty shall not be known in the land by

reason of that famine following for it

shall be very Grievous and look at this

in verse 32 it says and for that the

dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice it

is because the thing is established by

God and God will shortly bring it to

pass

you know I could spend the rest of this

program just talking about this one

thing I want to move on but you know we

all have dreams and sometimes dreams are

meaningless they’re just random thoughts

of our subconscious and they mean

nothing so I do not intend to say that

all dreams are significant and something

from God but there’s at least 15 times

in Scripture that God used dreams to

speak to people six of them are right

here in Joseph’s life God spoke to the

husband of Mary the Joseph of the New

Testament The Stepfather of Jesus

through a dream Nebuchadnezzar had God

speak to him through dreams multiple

times and so dreams can be significant

but sometimes a dream is given so that

you can change what’s happening in other

words God’s going to show you something

that’s going to happen and it may be

good or it may be bad but it can be

changed you can either cooperate with it

Rebel at it you can stop it you can you

can confirm it sometimes dreams can be

changed God could show you something

that potentially could happen so that

you could change and and avoid that but

when a dream is doubled unto you and

this isn’t just saying two dreams but

two dreams that made the exact same

point that’s because this thing is

established and it’s going to happen now

again there needs to be a little

interpretation with that but this is one

of the things I get out of that that’s

what he said right here for as much as

the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice

it is because the thing is established

by God and God will shortly bring it to

pass and now Joseph goes beyond just

interpreting the dreams and I believe he

knows in his heart that this is the day

that God had shown him 13 years before

this is what he had been believing for I

think he knew that his time had come you

know you need to be able you need to be

ready to seize an opportunity when it

comes your way and I think some people

have been just diverted they’ve been

goofing off they’ve been just wasting

their time and when their opportunity

comes they aren’t ready they aren’t

prepared for it Joseph had stayed

focused on God and he was faithful

through every negative thing I believe

that he knew that this is what God uh

was going to use to promote him and to

get him out of the prison and so now he

goes beyond just interpreting the dream

to actually giving counsel

to Pharaoh now think about this and

you’ll find out later I’m not going to

take time to turn over and verify this

but it does say that the Egyptians hated

the Hebrews they wouldn’t even eat with

them Joseph had to separate himself from

the Egyptians so there was a racial

Prejudice prejudice against the Hebrews

and yet here is this Hebrew person not

only a Hebrew but a Hebrew person that

had been in prison giving instruction to

Pharaoh the mightiest milit AR person

the mightiest Nation on the earth at

that time this was bold on his part and

you know if you are going to see God’s

will come to pass you don’t have to be

arrogant you don’t have to promote

yourself Joseph had proven that he was

very patient and waiting on God but when

the time comes you have to be able to

stand up and know that God has called

you and anointed you and you have to be

able to speak in the name of the Lord

and knock back down you got to be

bold and so here’s boldness on Joseph’s

part and so here’s what he said unto

Pharaoh in verse 33 now therefore let

Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise

and set him over the land of Egypt let

Pharaoh do this and let him appoint

officers over the land and take up the

fifth part of the land of Egypt in the

seven plenteous years in other words

this is Pharaoh putting a 20% tax on all

produce during those plenteous years and

then in verse 35 and let them gather all

the food of those good years that come

and lay up corn under the hand of

pharaoh and let him keep food in the

cities and that food shall be for store

to the land against the seven years of

famine which shall be in the L land of

Egypt that the land perish not through

the famine and then the next verse verse

37 says and the thing was good in the

eyes of pharaoh and in the eyes of all

his servants and pharaoh phoh said unto

his servants can we find such a one as

this is a man in whom the spirit of God

is well now this is significant this

wasn’t just uh Joseph that was exerting

this he had given all the praise to God

before he even heard the dreams he says

it’s God that’s going to do this so he

he definitely showed that anything good

coming through him it was God and

Pharaoh recognized this and says can we

find anybody as good as Joseph a man who

God Speak speaks through and he goes on

to say in verse 39 and Pharaoh said unto

Joseph for as much as God has shown thee

all of this there is none so discreet

and wise as Thou Art Thou shalt be over

my house and according to Thy word shall

all my people be ruled only in the

throne will I be greater than thou and

Pharaoh said unto Joseph see I have set

thee over all the land of Egypt which

again the land of Egypt this was the

superpower of that day it was the

strongest Nation on the planet and

Pharaoh took all off his ring from his

hand and put it upon Joseph’s hand and

arrayed him in vestures of fine linen

and put a gold chain about his neck and

he made him ride in the second Chariot

which he had and they cried before him

bowed the knee and he made him ruler

over all the land of Egypt and Pharaoh

said unto Joseph I am pharaoh and

without thee shall no man live lift up

his hand or foot in all the land of

Egypt man this is

amazing Pharaoh gave Joseph such power

and authority to take off his ring and

give it to him that’s how they sealed

things they would put wax on things and

they would use the uh kingly ring as

Insignia nobody else had one like that

and that proved that the King was the

one who had passed this he gave Joseph

that Authority and he goes on to say

that only in the throne would Joseph be

subject unto him and everything else

Pharaoh gave Joseph the ability to rule

and so it says here in verse uh 44

Pharaoh said unto Joseph I am pharaoh

and without thee shall no man lift up

his hand or foot in all the land of

Egypt and Pharaoh called Joseph’s name

zapa and anyway he gave him his wife um

I can’t pronounce her name either the

daughter of potier priest of an and

Joseph went out over over all the land

of Egypt and notice right here in verse

46 it says and Joseph was 30 years old

when he stood before Pharaoh king of

Egypt if you compare this with Genesis

chapter 37 Joseph was 17 when these

dreams came so this shows us that for 13

years from the time of 17 until 30 every

single thing that happened in Joseph’s

life was negative

and boy there’s a lot of people that

they get excited thinking about God’s

got a purpose for my life but they don’t

recognize it there’s going to be some

hardship in between where they are and

where they go you know I remember not

long after the Lord changed my life

march the 23rd

1968 I was out praying one night there

was a field that was just three houses

down from us and it was this huge area

it probably was 5 10 acres and it was

just a field it’s now become part of the

University of Texas at Arlington and

it’s their athletic field and they have

all kinds of baseball diamonds and

things

there but at that time it was totally

empty and I was out there praying One

Night in the middle of this field nobody

could see me it was dark and I was pray

and boy God touched me and just showed

me that he was going to do some things

in my life and I was so thrilled over it

and I was praising God and about that

time this thunderstorm came and I mean

it started raining buckets of water and

so I started heading for home but as I

was walking I had to cross this little

ditch thing and it was filled with water

and I couldn’t see and I was tripping

and falling and I had M mud on me and uh

it was probably 10 minutes me walking

through this field before I could get

back home and anyway as I was doing I

just knew this was I believe God

speaking to me cuz he had just shown me

some things he wanted to do with my life

and as I was headed for home in this

rain storm just like I was tripping and

falling I couldn’t see where I was going

and there’s times that I fell flat on my

face and had to get up and walk the Lord

spoke to me and he says there’s going to

be a lot of things in between where you

are right now and where I’m going to

lead you and you’re going to trip and

fall just like you know me trying to get

back to the house but I knew where I was

going and I knew that if I just kept

putting one foot in front of the other I

would eventually get back home and even

though I couldn’t see and I was stepping

in holes and things I knew eventually

I’d get there and I remember that to

this day that was probably U somewhere

around

1970 or 71 probably 71 right after I got

back out of Vietnam and I remember that

to this day and the Lord has told me a

lot of times that I may not know

everything that’s in between where I am

and where I’m going I know I’m going to

trip and fall I’m going to probably get

dirty I’m going to have things happen

but I’m going to make it and I really

believe that and and basically this is

what happened with Joseph 17 years old

God put the vision in his heart but for

13 years everything that happened was

negative and he had a lot of negative

things happen but because he refused to

faint he wound up seeing it come to pass

you know it says in Galatians chapter 6

that in due season you will reap if you

faint not and I’ve often had other

people describe the things that are

happening now right now God is blessing

us we are having people respond we’re

having to increase

build it’s hard for us to contain all

the blessings that God is sending our

way and I’ve often had other people

describe what caused it and basically

I’ve heard many people say you know the

the biggest thing is Andrew just didn’t

quit and man I had an opportunity to

quit but I didn’t quit Joseph didn’t

quit he just remained faithful it took

13 years and it was actually 22 years

before he began to see his dreams fully

come to pass but before the first

positive thing happened it was 13 years

and one of the things that pushed him

through is he just refused to quit and

that’s because he had this Vision these

dreams from God and until those dreams

came true the things that God had shown

him kept him anchored to the things of

God I tell you this is one of the great

uh keys to success is just get

started and don’t quit

regardless of how hard it is I know that

there’s some people watching this

program today and you’re feeling like

quitting you’re thinking of quitting I’m

telling you don’t quit don’t quit you

just keep standing on what God has shown

you and if you don’t quit in due season

you will
