Welcome to our Monday’s broadcast of the
Gospel truth today is the beginning of
my second week teaching verse by verse
through the book of Philippians I tell
you this has been powerful what a great
honor it is to have a man who changed
the world and here we are 2,000 years
ago talking about him and the Revelation
and the things that God did through him
and the Book of Philippians is a book
that he wrote to his Partners last week
I made a major point out of this out of
Philippians chapter 1 verses uh 1
through 5 I won’t go back through that
but I’ve already covered a lot of
material and I’ve got this little book
that is a verse by verse teaching
through Philippians and it’s taken from
a teaching that I did in Atlanta you can
get the Atlanta gospel truth conference
where my I taught verse by verse through
the book of Philippians you can get this
verse by verse teaching that we’re doing
on television here and then you can also
get this book and uh so there’s a lot of
different ways real quickly let me just
mention that I typically don’t use my
computer but I’ve got a living
commentary that I’ve written footnotes
on 27,000 verses in the Bible and I’ve
got some information here and references
all I have to do is just put my cursor
over a reference and it will
automatically bring it up and it saves
me having to turn to the reference and
so I’m using my computer to teach
through this but it’s been really good
in the first chapter Paul was trying to
comfort his partners and the Philippians
were his Partners they were people that
he probably had a closer relationship
with than anybody else according to
Philippians 4:15 they’re the only church
that ever sent him money after he left
the local area and they even sent to him
and helped him get his own hired house
in Rome for two years as a prisoner he
couldn’t work and yet how did he pay for
this it was his Partners these
Philippians so these people were really
close to Paul they and they were
concerned about him because he had been
been out of pocket for a year in transit
to Rome they finally found out that he
had arrived and they sent him money they
sent him some things and uh they were
concerned about how he was doing and so
in an effort to comfort his partners he
was basically telling them that look it
doesn’t matter what happens to me I’m
only here to promote Jesus for me to
live as Christ and to die gain
Philippians chap 1 verse 21 and so he
basically modeled for them what the
Christian Life is supposed to be it’s
not about us and about how things are
going for us it’s about the kingdom of
God and we are here to advance the
kingdom and if if our personal suffering
advances the kingdom well then no
problem for him to live as Christ and to
die as gain and then in chapter two he
began to exort the Philippians to have
this same attitude that he had and now
we’re down to Philippians chapter 2
verse 5 and he starts using Jesus as the
perfect example the greatest example of
a person who lived for others and not
for himself let me just back up a couple
of verses and read some of the things
that Paul said in verse three he said
let nothing be done through Strife or
vain Glory but in lowliness of Mind Let
each esteem other better than themselves
man I spent quite a bit of time talking
about that that is rare that anybody
even thinks that that is a good thing
much less something that they are
pursuing and then in verse four he says
look not every man on his own things but
every man also on the things of others
again this is rare most people see
everything just through the filter of
what about me what is how’s this going
to affect me and they don’t even think
about other people and why people do
what they do I spent quite a bit of time
talking about that last Friday but now
in verse five he says let this mind be
in you which was also in Christ Jesus
man this is phenomenal Jesus is the
greatest example of humility of
sacrifice putting other people ahead of
himself that the world has ever seen
there’s nobody else that even comes
close and most people think that well
that was Jesus I can’t be like that this
right here is Paul saying let this mind
be in you which was also in Christ Jesus
in other words this is the way we need
to think there’s some people that
honestly just think well Jesus I can’t
be like Jesus you have Jesus himself
living on the inside of you in the in
the spirit realm in your Born Again
Spirit it says in 1 John 4 verse 17 that
herein is our love made perfect that we
may have boldness in the day of judgment
because as he is speaking of Jesus so
are we in this world it didn’t say so
are we going to be someday in the future
when we get into eternity but right now
in this world we are as Jesus is there’s
nobody that as far as your actions are
perfectly representing Jesus there’s
nobody that as far as your personality
your thoughts and emotional part that
you are perfectly representing Jesus but
in your spirit you are now identical to
Jesus 1 Corinthians 6:17 says he that is
joined unto the Lord is one spirit that
means a singular one to the exclusion of
Another You Are identic to Jesus in your
spirit so for you to let your mind be
like Christ to think like Christ is not
far-fetched in the spirit if you are
born again you were recreated it is now
the spirit of his son sent into your
heart crying ABA
father that’s Galatians chapter 4 and so
in your spirit you do have the spirit of
Christ it says in Romans chapter 8 and I
believe it’s verse 9 it says if any man
have not the spirit of Christ he is none
of his if you have been born again you
do have Christ Living on the inside of
you your three parts Spirit soul and
body your spirit is identical to Jesus
it’s perfect but these other two parts
if you get your soul your mental and
emotional part in agreement with your
spirit and if you start thinking letting
this mind be in you which was also in
Christ Jesus that’s two against one and
your physical body will just respond
it’ll be healed it’ll be anointed it’ll
have power prosperity joy peace all
these things but if you get your soul in
agreement with your body and just go by
what you see and feel well then even
though you have the life of God in your
spirit it’s two against one and it’ll
shut off the flow of that Spirit on the
inside of you so I’m saying all of these
things to say that it says let this mind
be in you which was also in Christ Jesus
this is not far-fetched this is how we
should be thinking you know I actually
knew a man one time who was raised in a
home where the parents were alcoholics
this guy was on dope and drugs and
alcohol by the time he was seven eight
years old he he would uh go weeks at a
time wearing nothing but just one pair
of dirty underwear his parents were
alcoholics didn’t take care of him and
Anyway by the time he was a teenager he
had fried his brain and he was in a
mental institution and he basically was
just out of it and a guy came into the
mental institution led him to the Lord
he got born again and I mean God just
restored him all of a sudden his mind
was clear but he didn’t remember his
childhood he had been stoned or drunk
his whole life he didn’t know who he was
he didn’t know how you’re supposed to
act and so he asked the guy that led him
to the lord well what do I do how do I
act how do I think and he said just take
the Bible and read about Jesus and
whatever you see Jesus doing you do that
and this guy be to literally just start
imitating Jesus and trying to think and
act and do like Jesus and because of it
when I first met him I told Jamie I said
you keep your hands on your billfold I’m
keeping my hands on my wallet this guy’s
too nice he’s too kind he’s he’s too
generous he’s bound to be after
something he’s trying to con us but did
you know this guy wound up over the
years just proving himself he he bought
me cars he bought me clothes he gave
much more to me than he could ever get
out on me and I came to realize that he
wasn’t putting on he just literally was
trying to think like Jesus would to God
that every one of us when we got born
again could just lose our mind our old
way of thinking and our old identity and
just try and be like Jesus that’s what
Paul is saying right here let this mind
be in you which was also in Christ Jesus
and then he begins to describe how Jesus
thought and how how he acted how he put
other people ahead of himself how he
looked not only on his perspective but
he saw things from our perspective in
verse six it says who being in the form
of God thought it not robbery to be
equal with God some of the modern
translations will say that equality with
God was not something to be grasped or
to be held onto in other words Jesus was
God manifest in the flesh 1 Timothy 3:1
16 says great is the mystery of
godliness God was manifest In the Flesh
let me just read that to you says
without controversy great is the mystery
of godliness God was manifest In the
Flesh justified in the spirit seen of
angels preached unto the Gentiles
believed on in the world received up
into Glory that’s definitely talking
about Jesus and Jesus was God manifest
In the Flesh and even though he was God
he didn’t come down here and act as God
using Supernatural power he came into a
physical body and he suffered the
limitations of being limited to one
place you know there’s a scripture that
says that the uh Universe fits in the
span of God’s hand that means the width
of his hand God’s hand can cont control
contain the entire
universe and yet a God that big came and
inhabited a
body that is absolutely phenomenal and
he didn’t operate you know he didn’t
come to earth like uh if it would have
been us and we were coming to rescue man
we could have come in like the space
shuttle or we could have come in some
Supernatural way that would have
impressed anybody Jesus was born lowly
in a
Manger he was born in a
stable and didn’t even have room for him
in the end he didn’t come to Rich
parents he wasn’t born to the king and
to the queen he was born to people that
had no
reputation he humbled himself he lived
the way that you and I live you know if
I was God and if somehow or another I
love people enough to come to the earth
I guarantee you I’d have been the most
awesome specimen of human flesh that the
world had ever seen I’d have been the
most beautiful the most handsome the
biggest the strongest I’d have been
taller than anybody else and yet the
Bible says over in genes um excuse me uh
Isaiah chapter 53 that when we see him
there is no beauty that we should desire
him no
cess in other words Jesus wasn’t special
I don’t think he was ugly but I just
don’t think he was special he was just
as normal as I am there was nothing
special about him and he lived his life
for 33 years on here on this Earth not
drawing on his Supernatural power as God
but living as a man becoming subject to
being tired and hungry and weak and um
limited to one spot the same way that
you and I are he did that so that he
could be a faithful high priest and
understand exactly what we’re going
through Bo when you stop and think about
this Paul is talking about don’t just
look at things from your own perspective
look at the other person esteem other
people better than yourself and now he’s
using Jesus as an example and what a
awesome example that God
allmighty became limited to a physical
body lived for 33 years walked this
Earth he performed Miracles but he
didn’t perform them as God he performed
them as a man using faith in God and he
did all of these things because of his
love for us you talk about putting other
people ahead of yourself you know the
death of Jesus on the cross was amazing
and I’m not trying to belittle that at
all but I think sometimes people think
that that’s the only thing that Jesus
suffered was just the crucifixion and
all of the beating that went with it it
was suffering for God Almighty to be
limited to a physical body for 33 years
and have to grow as a little baby it
says in Luke 2:52 that Jesus is
increased in wisdom and in stature and
in favor with God and man Jesus hadn’t
learn how to control his his motions how
to feed himself how to take care of
himself how to walk he had to learn
things it says at 13 he was or 12 he was
in the temple uh asking questions and
teaching the rabbis he was
learning that’s amazing to me that God
would make himself so vulnerable come
into this Earth as a little tiny baby
that had to be taken and protected it’s
amazing you talk about humbling yourself
you talk about putting other people
first Jesus is a supreme example so he
was in the form of God that means he was
God and yet he thought it not robbery to
be equal with God but made himself of no
reputation and took upon him the form of
a servant and was made in the likeness
of man
this word reputation right here it means
to make empty that is figuratively to
abase neutralize falsify Jesus literally
neutralized his god-given
person now in the spirit he was God but
in the natural he lived as a man he
didn’t draw on Supernatural power you
know this is one of the Temptations that
Satan tried to use against him in
Matthew chapter 4 and Luke chap 4 he
wanted him to turn turn use his
Supernatural power and turn stones into
bread and Jesus was hungry he had been
40 days and 40 nights fasting and so he
was hungry this was a real need and yet
he didn’t use his Supernatural power to
turn a stone into bread he lived as a
man he he performed Miracles but not for
himself he did it for other people he
wasn’t going to perform a miracle trying
to prove to the devil that he was God he
was trusting in what God had said about
him and not some Supernatural
manifestation of his power so he made
himself of no reputation and took upon
him the form of a servant and was made
in the likeness of men and being found
in fashion as a man he humbled himself
and became obedient unto death even the
death of the Cross you know this verse
eight says that he was found in fashion
as a
man you know I’ve spent a lot of time
thinking about this and and I still
don’t fully understand it but there was
a time that Jesus had to become aware in
his physical mind that he was
God I man I can’t even understand how
this worked now I know that in the
spirit when he was born the Angels told
the Shepherds go see Christ the Lord he
was Lord at his birth in the spirit this
was God Almighty and he was as much God
in his Spirit as he was before his him
being incarnate and becoming a man so in
the spirit he was 100% God but in his
body he was 100% man he was sinless man
but he was still man and there was a
time he had to grow in wisdom and in
stature and in favor with God and man
Luke 2:52 and there was a time that
Jesus literally had to grasp that I am
God manifest In the Flesh now his his
Spirit was God uh from birth and I’m
sure it was bearing witness and he was
getting Revelation and he didn’t have
the corruption in him that you and I
were born with and so I’m sure that
there’s some details about this that I
don’t understand but nonetheless this
says he was found in fashion as a man
there was a time that Jesus by faith had
to acknowledge and come to the
realization that he was God manifest In
the
Flesh that’s amazing and when he
realized that it says he humbled himself
and became obedient unto death even the
death of the
Cross man this is awesome you know over
in the first chapter of Philippians we
dealt with this last week but it says
that your faith that your love would
abound more and more in knowledge and in
judgment and I tell you if you could
take these verses right here in
Philippians chapter 2 and really
meditate on the fact that Jesus was God
manifest In the Flesh he humbled himself
and he lived for 33 years as a mere
human God Almighty who created the
universe became a human being a sinless
human being but nonetheless human and
limited to being in one place and
getting tired and hungry and weak and
feeling
pain if you would meditate on that and
think about what it took for God
Almighty to come and and become a man
and submit himself to people that he
created he could have wiped them out
with just a thought when they were
saying prophesy if you’re the Christ who
is it that smoked you man he could have
prophesied to them he could have come
down off the cross he could have called
10 Legions of
angels and yet he humbled himself as you
meditate on this this will make your
love abound more and more as you get
more and more knowledge and it will
bring you to a place like Paul was
saying that for me to live as Christ and
to die as gain if God Almighty loved you
and me so much that he came to this
earth and lived as a man and then
suffered the rejection and the
crucifixion and if he did all of that
because of his great love for us and if
you understand that boy Your Love Will
abound and you’ll you’ll be like Paul
that for me to live as Christ and to die
as
gain you know there are people all
around the world today that as I’ve just
gone through these few verses and talked
about this the holy spirit is opening up
your heart and your mind to understand
to a greater degree what Jesus did for
you and because of it man there is just
a response coming out of you that oh God
I want to commit my life I want to be
like Paul and live for Christ and not
for for myself and if that’s you you
need to respond right now you know for
those of you in the United States also
over in India and England and different
places we have a call center they’ll
have a number up on the screen but uh
we’ve got people that will pray with you
and there’s some of you that right now
you may not be born again you may just
be watching this program and you may
have heard about Jesus but you didn’t
really understand the price that he paid
for you and the Holy Spirit has been
speaking to you today and you need to
open up your heart and receive Jesus if
you’ll call the number that you see on
your screen we’ve got people standing by
that will pray with you they can tell
you and pray with you tell you exactly
what it says in the word of God Romans
chap 10:9 says that if you will confess
with your mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead you shall be saved for
with the heart man believes un
righteousness and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation and
we’ve got people that will pray with you
and help you we’ve also got a little
book that we’ll send you entitled the
new you/ Holy Spirit talking about what
it means to be born again and to receive
the baptism of the Holy Spirit and we’d
love to send that to you but I if you’ve
never made Jesus your lord you need to
do that right now and respond to this
dealing that the holy spirit is having
with your heart right now if you’re
already born again and yet maybe you’ve
just never really meditated and thought
much about what Jesus did and what he
gave up well then you need to humble
yourself and you need to just say father
I want this mind to be in me that was in
Christ Jesus I want to lay down my life
for other people I want to endure
hardship and suffering because other
people I’m going to esteem them better
than myself as it says right here in
Philippians chapter 2 I tell you there’s
just multitudes of people watching this
program right now that you need to
respond you need to do something you
don’t need to just hear this you need to
do something with it let this mind be in
you which was in Christ Jesus who being
in the form of God thought it not
robbery to be equal with God but made
himself of no reputation and took upon
him the form of a serpent and was made
in the likeness of men and being found
in fashion as a man he humbled himself
and became Obed obedient unto death even
the death of the
Cross praise God man I just pray for
myself and for you that God’s holy
spirit would help us to fully understand
what he did for us and that we would
respond by giving our life completely
over to
