we look at gender right now our culture

is so broken so broken

when it comes to gender but gender

captures the image of God

this session we’re going to be talking

about what it means to leave a

Redemptive Legacy I believe leaving a

Redemptive Legacy is actually a mandate

for each and every one of us but it

actually begins to drive our decisions

how we’re going to live today knowing

that it’s going to go into our future

and I’m going to set this up with a

story that’s not going to seem to make

sense but you’ll figure it out because

you’re women you can totally do this

okay so basically when I wrote the book

Linus arising it was out in five

languages I was driving in my car and I

prayed and I said God um I don’t know if

you know but I wrote a book called Linus

arising and I need a confirmation I I I

know that you gave me the dream but I

don’t know if it was okay if I wrote a

book so if you wouldn’t mind just

confirming to me that this was okay that

would just really be helpful because

it’s already in five languages and so

that night I was in the throes of a

school project with my youngest son

Arden he had about eight o’clock at

night said oh my gosh I just remember I

have a school project due tomorrow so I

I’d gone into the basement I had torn

apart the three older boys school

projects brought him up the poster board

and he’s like nope no it has to be like

trifold it has to stand it can’t be

white it needs to have a black

background so I braved a blizzard and

paid the other boys money I had Addison

he Arden was dictating while Addison was

typing Austin was like cutting things

out and there I’ve got it all set sort

out on the table it’s all spread out

when John decides to do something he

does a lot which is call me and put me

on the phone with random strangers now

these people I don’t think they want to

talk to me I don’t know if it’s an exit

strategy for John like I’m done talking

to you here talk to my wife and he just

like dials our home phone and says hey

Lisa here’s someone who wants to talk to

you and so he did that and I was like no

no I am not doing the random stranger

phone call tonight I am working with

your son on a school project you

wouldn’t understand that because you’ve

never done them but John no this is not

going he goes you know oh no don’t worry

about don’t worry I gave him your cell

phone

who does that and so I was like

unbelievable so when the guy called I

tried to sound exhausted I was like

hello it was like you know 10 o’clock at

night on the east coast and he was like

this is like

and he’s like well your husband held up

your book lioness rising and he said the

lions are the best Killers but lionesses

are the best hunters and I said well of

course he would say that that’s all he

knows he hasn’t read my book and he said

well I am calling you to tell you why

your book is important and so now I kind

of had his intent he kind of had my

attention he said

um let me tell you what I do here I am

in charge of special operative teams at

Fort Bragg he said up until this point

we have focused on special operative men

into Afghanistan because of the danger

and he said but now we are sending in

special operative women and he said um

he said because we’ve learned that their

culture forbids us to speak to their

women and we have learned as a military

that if you can’t speak to the women you

can’t flip the culture and if you can’t

flip the culture you can’t win a war and

he said so we have these special

operative women coming in and they’re

going to tell the Afghan women they have

voice and value they’re going to tell

them why democracy will serve their sons

and daughters well they’re going to take

care of their minor medical needs and

they’re going to deliver their babies

and he said you want to know what the

name of this group is I said sure he

said they’re called team lioness he said

they’re about ready to be deployed may I

have a copy of your book for all of them

so I got to outfit all of Team lioness

going out of Fort Bragg then team Linus

going out of Camp Lejeune and the reason

I’m telling you this because is if the

U.S military understands it without the

involvement of women

we will fight but we cannot win then it

is time that the church understands that

it needs its daughters so it no longer

is just fighting it is beginning to win

now interestingly enough our culture

will allow women in every single realm

of leadership except for the church

the church is the only place where women

are shut down and not given the

expression but the truth is there was a

mandate that was given in Genesis to

both the man and the woman and we have

different roles we express it

differently but we have a unified

purpose and because I don’t want to see

him like I’m just being self-serving

since I am a woman and I am going to say

the reason I keep speaking on this

it’s not so I get more speaking

invitations

I have enough speaking invitations this

isn’t about being a guest speaker

this is about changing cultures in the

house of God so that there are mothers

and fathers in the house of God not just

occasional guest speakers for mother’s

day but the woman in the house are

valued whether their daughters or

mothers or grandmothers so anyway

there’s a book that was written by Dr

Gilbert and I’m going to try to say his

name and Dr Gilbert please forgive me if

I say it wrong balenski and I think I

just totally did it wrong he’s a Wheaton

college professor okay and he did an

18-month study about gender roles and he

wrote a book called Beyond sex roles and

this is what he said before the fall men

and women related to each other as

co-regions both bearing the image of God

and called to join together in caring

for the world he had created

both men and women are responsible to

fulfill their ministries of service for

God’s glory in the manner God gifted

them and to the degree to which they are

apportioned Faith tragically in the fall

this Cooperative relationship was deeply

wounded We Believe God’s gracious plan

for Redemption is that everything that

was broken through sin including the

relationship between men and women might

be restored to the beauty that existed

during the first days of creation

many devout intelligent Christians

disagree with our conclusions

there will come a day when we will all

find out the degree to which we have

veered from God’s perfect wisdom

in this issue though and many others

until then I hold this position humbly

yet firmly

I am willing to take the risk of

encouraging women to do what I believe

scripture asks of them to make

themselves fully available

to the full range of spiritual gifts

I too understand I could teach for an

hour eight hours

and then I’m not here to try to convince

you

but I too believe

that women have full permission

to operate in the full range

of the gift of God on their life

the early church functioned this way the

early church God began to preempt

everything with signs and wonders and

miracles he poured out his Spirit on The

Young and the old he poured out his

Spirit on the men and the women he

poured out his spirit in such

significant ways that people couldn’t

control it couldn’t legislate it

couldn’t reduce it to their traditions

and in the book of Acts we have a little

bit of a crisis here because what’s

happened is Peter and John have walked

by a man who has been lame for 40 years

and they raise him up and the whole city

begins to hear the gospel and they’re

like okay we’ve got we’ve got to do some

damage control we’ve got to figure out

how to contain this thing because what

do we do this guy everybody knows for 40

years has been lame and he is standing

in front of everybody completely healed

and they are saying it’s Jesus who we

crucified that has healed this man and

made him whole what are we going to do

and so they they gather Peter and John

they gather the whole congregation

they’re all there and and it says in

chapter 4 verse 7-20 it says they stood

Peter and John in the middle of the room

and grilled them

they were going to try to label them

they were going to try to intimidate

them and how do they grow them they said

who put you in charge here what business

do you have doing this with that and I

just love this Peter full of the holy

spirit let loose okay I think Peter let

loose

because he figured out who he was

Simon might not have been able to let

loose

Simon Myra said you’re right I had no

business I don’t have the education I

don’t have the experience I don’t have

the money

but Peter let loose

and he says rulers and leaders of the

people if we have been brought to trial

today for helping a sick man put under

investigation regarding this healing

I’ll be completely Frank with you we

have nothing to hide

by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

the one you killed on the cross the one

God raised from the dead by the means of

his name this man stands before you

healthy and whole Jesus is the stone you

Masons throughout which is now the

Cornerstone salvation comes no other way

no other name has been or will be given

to us by which we can be saved only this

one this is what it says about the

religious leaders they couldn’t take

their eyes off of them

Peter and John standing there so

confident so sure of themselves their

Fascination deepened when they realized

these two men were laymen with no

training in scripture or formal

education they recognized them as

companions of Jesus

but with the man right before them

seeing him standing there so upright so

healed what could they say against them

so they sent them out of the room so

they could work out a plan they talked

it over

and they said what can we do with these

men by now it’s known all over town that

a miracle has occurred and that they are

behind it there is no way we can refute

it but so that it doesn’t go any further

let’s silence them with threats so they

won’t dare to use Jesus’s name ever

again with anyone

says they called them back and warned

them that they were on no account ever

again to speak or teach in the name of

Jesus but Peter and John spoke right

back whether it is right in God’s eyes

to listen to you

rather than to God you decide

as for us there is no question

we can’t keep quiet about what we have

seen

and what we have heard

sometimes

you just have to step back

obey God

and let whoever wants to argue

keep arguing among themselves

but silence

in this case

is disobedience

for more than 2

000 years

the church’s daughters have been

restricted

from obeying what I believe

is God’s mandate on our life

we have been restricted to the teaching

according to the traditions of men

you’ve heard them women can teach other

women but not men

they can share but no preaching

the gospel

has been reduced and diminished to only

being filtered by men

and I told you at the very beginning of

these sessions

that if we’re going to build an

unrivaled life

we need to be unrivaled Representatives

we need the men to continue to boldly

preach the gospel and unpack it and

teach it the way that they do it but we

also need mothers and women and

daughters to do the same

in our culture if you’re a bold women in

the church you’re labeled aggressive

if you’re confident you’re called

ambitious

where are we finding what Jesus actually

said and we actually have his words in

Mark 16 15. then he said now these are

everyone gathered then he said go into

all the world go everywhere and announce

the message of God’s new good news to

one and to all

we need to be childlike

I believe the Great Commission is our

permission

in Christ we are all redeemed to declare

the gospel and it’s best if it’s my

gospel what God has done in my life what

I have found to be true what I know what

I see but once we’ve known the power of

God

once we’ve known the truth once we’ve

known the freedom we cannot allow

bullies

to intimidate us and silence us

you know Don and I were talking this

through because he was like oh I know

churches they let women preach and I’m

like who and he like name three and I’m

like okay that’s not I’m not talking

about letting

I’m talking about raising up

raising up women who are carriers of the

Gospel not inviting people occasionally

raising up our daughters to have freedom

and boldness so that they can stand in

such a way that the religious leader are

fascinated wait a minute these are

people that they’re they’re confident

they’re they’re not educated but there’s

the spirit of God is on them in such a

compelling way

so when I was looking at this I said you

know the oppression is way wider spread

than most men understand you know and so

I pulled one of the most well actually I

think the most prevalent church planning

organizations manuals when it comes and

talks about women in leadership and

they were unpacking the scripture that

everybody beats women up with and I’m

not even going to try to attempt it here

I wrote 10 000 words in the book but I’m

not going to even try to attempt to hear

his first Timothy 2. and after putting

the scripture down this leader decided

to unpack the scripture this way he said

without blushing Paul is simply stating

that when it comes to leading in the

church women are unfit because they are

more gullible and easier to deceive than

men

how do how do these words make you feel

some women feel shamed

and guilty

there would have been a time in my life

I would I would have said yeah you’re

right

I I’ve I’ve been deceived before

I’ve been gullible before

I can see areas of my life where I’m not

fit

well that’s why Jesus makes this fit

and that’s why he imparts wisdom

and that’s why he washes us away

other people might feel relieved like

good I didn’t really want to do this

it’s going to be a battle I don’t want

to have to face this

I was really angry when I read this

because what I heard was sexist bullying

and I heard shame

I’m going to put up a picture of my

granddaughter Sophia running topless in

the snow

okay this is

one of my favorite pictures of her

because she just has no bounds she’s

free she’s running she’s in moccasins

she’s celebrating a change of season

no

she’s unfit

she doesn’t know

that she’s labeled gullible

she doesn’t know

that somebody would call her easily

deceived

see the truth is

if somebody spoke any of that over my

granddaughter

they’d have a sicilian grandmother to

deal with

I will not let those things be spoken

over my spiritual daughters

or my granddaughters

and if I won’t let them be spoken over

daughters

then I can’t let them be spoken over me

see a lot of us Mamas we we can look at

our past and say it’s okay to think that

about me but it’s not okay to think that

about my daughter no it’s not okay to

think it about you

and it’s not okay to think it about your

daughter because when you begin to allow

that for you you will pass it on to your

daughters on some level she’ll begin to

think

that she is less than when God has

created her to be

more than

we need to be women

who stop arguing

and stop acting out because it’s easy

because we need to leave a Redemptive

we need to say you know it’s really not

about me having occasional platform

it’s about a whole change in the mindset

we look at gender right now our culture

is so broken so broken

when it comes to gender

but gender captures the image of God

and when you never have women in a place

where you can see them or hear them

Emily is very difficult connections for

the daughters on the house to have those

connections and then I will say there’s

been a lot of damage done by men

and I always find it very interesting

that when I preach and I give an altar

call on a Sunday the people that respond

the most and come down are the young men

not the young girls

because some of them have been so

wounded by a father they can only hear

certain truths

from the mouth of a mother

Ephesians 2 10 says for we and that’s

all of us collectively male and female

young and old for we are his workmanship

created in Christ Jesus for good works

which God prepared beforehand

that we should walk in them

when I read things that attach Fallen

traits

to people

then I know

it’s not the Holy Spirit

when I come before God In Prayer

he never

measures me by my past

he always speaks

strength and Destiny to my future even

if I’m like I’m awful I’m terrible he

says I believe there’s better things in

your future

I believe you want to change I believe

you won’t do it again he throws

confidence into my future so we need to

just answer one question

is it better

to obey God

or is it better

to obey man

I don’t know what he’s told you to do

but you need to stop making excuses

stop blaming the men

stop blaming a lack of opportunity

if you don’t have a Pulpit in the church

that doesn’t stop you from preaching

other places your life is the greatest

platform God will ever give you

and everything we do for God

if we do it to honor him

the sacredness of that job no matter how

secular it is is evident we need to

honor God with every area of our life

and stop making excuses and stop blaming

and would we even are tempted to take

those designations of unfit easily

deceived mocking or even somebody having

the audacity to call Daughters of Sarah

daughters of Eve

we need to take those labels off

for unfit Let’s get fit

for uneducated let’s get educated if

we’re unwise let’s get wise

you already know everything that we have

everything that we need for a life of

godliness has been provided for us in

the word of God

so father in the name of Jesus

I speak to the women here

and I speak to the sons and the

daughters that are in their lives father

I break any Prejudice of misogyny I

break any shame of their gender off of

them Father I thank you that you have

made them For Your Glory that they are

your workmanship created in Christ Jesus

and father they are not limited by their

gender father I thank you that their

gender was uniquely given to them and

they would not be mightier if they had

been born a man father I thank you that

you need the voice of sons and daughters

in these last days so I ask that you

would give them back with Clarity your

directives in Jesus name that we would

preach the gospel unafraid amen and amen

foreign

that you got to hear the truth that the

Great Commission is actually your

permission I don’t know if you felt like

I felt I don’t know what kind of things

attach themselves to you I don’t know if

you heard that you were unfit that you

were gullible as a woman and that you

were given to deception I wonder how you

felt when you heard how I felt about my

granddaughter I thought wait a minute

yes Sophia’s young but that doesn’t mean

she won’t grow yes Sophia it has a lot

of things that she does not know right

now but that doesn’t mean that she won’t

know them in the future I remember

thinking I’m not gonna let anybody tell

my granddaughter that she is unfit that

she is easily deceived and that she is

gullible but then I heard the Holy

Spirit whisper hey Lisa

these labels that you wouldn’t put on

her

they can no longer live on you I wonder

my friend what is the label that you

have on your life that is limiting you I

don’t know what has been spoken you know

maybe you’re thinking well there’s been

a lot of things spoken but I’m not sure

those things are hindering me I bet they

are I bet they are I want you to list

the lies I want you to list the lies and

then you know what you’re going to do

you’re going to cross off the lie and

you’re going to write the truth when it

says that you are unfit you’re going to

be like okay yeah you’re right I’m unfit

but Jesus made me fit when it says

you’re gullible you’ll say the holy

spirit gives me wisdom I want you to

take everything that is a lie and I want

you to counter with the truth I want you

to write that truth that God has spoken

over your life I don’t want you to live

in the limits I don’t want you to say

yeah this was the lie I want you to

combat with the truth and everything

that God says about me is actually what

I am going to begin to say about myself

I Believe As you move into this season

that you are going to want God Astound

you with a life without limits that you

will no longer have these labels and you

will no longer have these lies that

maybe you didn’t even know were like

beginning to have a fog over your mind

you go forth with Clarity and strength
