the last session of insights to a life
without rival is about pursuing your
Eternal story
and I’m going to open up with a story of
something that happened to us in July
actually I was finishing this book and
and not not really sure how I wanted to
close the book and I had gone to color
with my beautiful daughter-in-law
Juliana and while I was there in in May
the Holy Spirit had said you’ve written
on lions and you’ve written on swords
now you’re going to write on a crown
and so I had come home and researched
the different crowns and you know I kind
of have this little annoyance with the
princess Tierra thing so I was not
necessarily having a really good
attitude about it and
that all changed in one afternoon I was
driving in my car and word reached me
that the man the father
a precious brother and the Lord that
distributes our resources in the Middle
East
predominantly in the language of Arabic
had been killed by an Isis missile
and
I was like wait a minute
um he’s he’s he’s he’s he’s dead and
they’re like yes you know he’s he’s gone
and we we can’t we can’t let this be
known too much because of the safety of
his family and he was he was had left
Armenia and he was ministering to the
Kurdish people in Syria and Isis just
you know set a bunch of missiles and and
he was gone and they said you know we
we’re just wondering if you would write
a letter to his widow
well
I said yes I’d love to do that
and it seemed easy
until I sat down to write a letter
what do you say
to somebody
who has lost their husband
who has
a teenage son
teenage daughter
what do you say thank you thank you for
your partnership thank you for
Cole I I I just
sat there
Frozen
I didn’t know what to say
I didn’t know what to write
I wrote our guy that connects with him
and I said I I’m actually can’t find
words I’m really having a hard time
finding words to to know what to say and
he wrote me back and he said Lisa
some give much
and others give all
and I realized
that that giving all
was the crown that I wanted to talk
about
the Crown of Life
no idea
that our culture was going to begin to
shift and shake and move in such ways
where we even our own American Shores
are seeing people martyred martyred
senselessly you know not long ago in
Oregon
a young man came in and asked each
person are you a Christian
and shot them in the head if they said
they were a Christian and shot him in
the leg if they said they weren’t you
know maybe the first person that said
yeah I’m a Christian had no idea what
that response was going to be but you
know there was there was eight other
people that did
and they still said
I’m a Christian
we’re not promised tomorrow
and if we are going to live a life
without rival we are going to have to
have a constant consistent
Eternal perspective
Galatians 5
25-26 and the message tells us since
this is the kind of life we have chosen
the life of the spirit
let us make sure that we do not just
hold it as an idea
in our heads or a sentiment in our
hearts
you know I actually I’m going to pause
there for a second you know I actually
was talking to somebody about that
particular incident I just talked about
because I happen to be in Oregon two
days after that shooting
and I was talking this over with this
person and I said you know exactly what
I said to you and this person Shrugged
their shoulders and they said you’re
with the grace of God
even if they had denied Christ it
doesn’t matter
he would have understood
sometimes I just think do
do we understand
this isn’t just
concept
or a sentiment
this is our lives
because on to say
but work out its implications and every
detail of Our Lives
that means we will not compare ourselves
with each other as if one of us were
better and another worse
we have far more interesting things to
do with our lives
each of us
is an original
an original ambassador an original son
or daughter of the most high
and so we’re going to end where we began
this unique expression of you is
actually in keeping with a life filled
with the Holy Spirit
copying
is counterproductive to a life in the
spirit
it’s competition
it’s self-driven it’s self-motivated a
life in the spirit spends time with God
and says what am I the original of what
do you need to imprint on my world
through and from my life
your heavenly father whether you know
this or not wrote out
every single intimate detail of your
life in living letters
he wrote These before you even Drew your
first breath
we have living story lines written about
us
and the choices whether we’re going to
enter into those storylines
or try to impose ourselves on somebody
else’s story
are we going to be trying out for the
wrong movie when we’re supposed to be in
this play over here
each of us has a specific course and a
specific destiny
and you’re hearing a lot of people
talking about stay in your lane well
it’s not even just about staying your
lane you can’t even check to see what
other people are doing in theirs
we just need to look forward lift our
eyes and run
spirit-led life is a god-given
entrustment
and it would be a shame to be had given
so much
and let that treasure be buried
underneath the opinions and the words of
other people
you are not a spectator
you have far more interesting
and important things to do with your
life
and your future is now
all we have is this point in time none
of us are promised tomorrow
but this moment is ours no one can take
this moment for us and the Power of
Choice is our power to redeem our past
and step into the future
we have each been seated with stories of
stunning hope promise danger Adventure
Galatians 6 4-5 describes it this way
make a careful exploration of who you
are and I already told you how you do
that you get in the presence of God you
don’t ask friends you don’t ask your
parents you don’t look at your past
make a careful exploration of Who You
Are you ask God in his presence and you
go into the word of God and you read who
he says you are
and the work you have been given and
then sink yourself into that
let everybody else argue sink yourself
into that don’t be impressed with
yourself don’t compare yourself with
others each of you must take
responsibility for doing the creative
best you can with your own life
you know when I read that I thought
about when we were in school
you know each of us given assignments
you weren’t allowed a copy off of other
people
you aren’t allowed to say let me see how
you answer that question on the test
wait what are you doing for your project
I’m going to do the same thing and if
you did your teacher knew that you’d
copied and you would get marks off for a
lack of originality
we’re not supposed to be comparing with
each other looking whether they’re doing
it how far they are where are we in the
race we each take our own responsibility
for our assignment
there is a dangerous pull
on our of our world right now that would
want to weigh you down so that you
cannot run your race
first John 2 says do not love the world
or the things in the world for if anyone
loves the world the love of the father
is not in him for all that is in the
world
the desires of the flesh the desires of
the eye and the pride of life is not
from the father but it’s from the world
and the world is passing away along with
its desires but whoever does the will of
God abides forever
that’s the eternal
battle between eternity and the world
between the temporal and the scene and
the Unseen and the eternal
three things that the world wants to
attach us to the desire of the flesh or
always wanting your own way
the desires of the eye wanting
everything you see or more and more and
more
the pride of life which is wanting to
appear important
these driving passions will anchor us to
the world instead of release us to what
God has for us
James 4 4 says do you not know that
friendship with the world is enmity with
God
therefore whoever wishes to be a friend
if the world makes himself an enemy to
God
you know never in the history of
humankind it may increase in it but
never never
have people had more access to other
people
more intimate knowledge of what other
people are doing
and yet more difficulty connecting
people know all about other people and
don’t know how to connect with the
people that are in front of them they
don’t know how to put their phones down
they feel the the weight the pull of
this world and they are forgetting the
relationships
and the words that are eternal
relationships and words that we speak to
one another are actually an eternal
factor and when he’s talking about
friendship with the world is enmity with
God he’s not saying don’t be friends to
a worldly person he’s not saying don’t
be friends with you know somebody in the
world
what he’s saying is there’s a difference
between befriending people
and befriending the world
when we befriend the world we reward the
lust of the eye the lust of the Flesh
and the pride of life
there is so much arrogance right now
sometimes I’m I’m embarrassed sometimes
I’m embarrassed by what I see even our
Brothers and Sisters in Christ say
sometimes I’m like oh please don’t
somebody needs to stop you somebody
needs to pull you aside and so please
don’t do that you are not you’re not
understanding what you’re modeling so
James isn’t saying don’t be a friend to
the world
he’s saying don’t be a friend with the
world and there’s a big difference
between to and with Jesus was a friend
to sinners but he wasn’t a friend with
Sinners he didn’t do he didn’t pursue
what they pursued he didn’t act like
they acted he did not treat sacred
things as though they were profane and
I’m very concerned that we don’t
understand that by being such a profane
Nation
we are bringing ourselves under
the Judgment of God not that God is
judging us but God judges things that
are profane and so when we are under an
area that God is judging we come under
the judgment and that’s why God is
saying come apart and be separate
don’t be profane understand being sacred
don’t use your words for profanity don’t
use your words for that which is not
Eternal begin to understand I I need the
weight
of what is on your life for Eternal
measures
so
I look at our day and our age and I
I
to be honest with you we live in the
greatest days and the worst days
it’s going to get clearer and clearer
what’s dark and what’s like
what’s fear and what’s love
it’s going to get clearer and clearer
and that may mean some of us may in fact
lose our lives because we decide that we
want to be Christians I I don’t know I
kind of hate it because
hi I found every book that I’ve ever
written ends up being prophetic and so
when God talked to me about writing
about Martyrs and I will say
um in the book without rival the last
two chapters
talks about martyrs
because the early church considered it
an honor
to die on his behalf they considered an
honor to be persecuted they considered
an honor to be beaten and I’m not
thinking any of us need to go out and
look for trouble
I think it’s going to find us I think
it’s going to find us but I do need you
to understand you won’t make it if you
don’t know who you are
and you don’t know whose you are
I have a dog named Tia
and she’s actually dead now but anyway I
had a dog I had a dog named Tia and John
and I went to South and I do care about
her but it’s not the point right now
anyway
um
John I went to South Korea and while we
were in South Korea there was a Workman
working on our house and he left the
door open and my my dog just went
wandering into the Colorado blizzard of
January and she had cataracts and all
this kind of stuff somehow she didn’t
find her way back and my boys didn’t
tell me what was going on because they
knew I’d like freak out in South Korea
so anyway they looked and looked for her
all night call for her she didn’t come
home and kind of the next day somebody
said well maybe we should check the
pound maybe we should check the pound so
they go and Austin finds her in the
pound and Austin said when he found her
he wasn’t even sure she was our dog
because he expected her to be like so
happy like yes you found me he said
instead she was like cowering in a
corner and and then you know they were
kind of rough with Austin I think he had
to pay the equivalent of a night in an
expensive hotel to get her out because
I’d let her license expire I thought it
was like a one-time thing and she didn’t
have the couple shots anyway so so we
had to pay all these all these fines she
was like distressed she was like I’ve
been living in a cage I don’t know
what’s happened you know but I’ll tell
you the reason why she ended up in the
pound instead of back at our house
because I had a tag on TIA
had her name
but it had the wrong phone number
and she had no way of telling people
who she was
and because she had no way of telling
people who she was
she was lost
and we have a generation out there
that they don’t know
how to make the connection
and they’re lost
and they’ve been dumped off somewhere
and they’re cowering in a cage
and we need to go and find them and just
like because my dog had one air at night
we didn’t say sorry now you’re not our
dog anymore you know if I would do that
for our dog and we would pay a fine
how much more
Jesus does that for us
how much more we need to be mindful that
there are people lost and they are
wandering
and we need to give them clear evidence
of the path back
because when we look like the world
we can’t save the world
when we act like the world
if they can’t find what we have that is
any different
we need to have some identifying
distinguishing factors that are on our
lives so that people can find their way
home
so people can be redeemed from their
destruction
so I want to declare some of your
distinguishing factors over you
first of all
you are our daughter without rival
you are called to a life without rival
you are loved by a father without rival
you are alive in a Time perilous
dangerous without rival
we hail from a nation without rival
we serve a god without rival
we are bought by a sacrifice without
rival we are entrusted with the name of
Jesus which is a name without rival it
is the name above every name that can be
named we are empowered by a spirit
without rival The Same Spirit that
raised Christ from the grave has
quickened our mortal body we are versed
in a language without rival it is called
the word of God we are part of the body
without rival it is called the body of
Christ you and I have been entrusted
with a commission without rival equipped
with a weapon without rival engaged in a
war without rival and before us
is opportunities without rival
for you and I have been chosen out of
all of eternity for a season of harvest
without rival because we are all
destined for an eternity without rival
this broken
confused darkened world
needs the light that is in you to be
shined brightly without rival
so I began to think
to go forward
I want to find out what the church
looked like when it was truly without
rival
and I want to pray a prayer that was
formed in that season without rival
from the book of Acts
acts 4 29 so now Lord
listen to their threats to harm us
and Empower us as your servants to speak
the word of God freely and courageously
stretch out your hand of power through
us to heal and to move in signs and
wonders by the name of your holy son
Jesus
may all that was written about us may
all that we have been positioned for
be done without rival in Jesus name

you know I’m so excited about you being
all in I hope you could see the
difference between being a friend to the
world and a friend with the world if we
have a friendship with the world then
we’re heading in a place of sympathy and
place of sympathy does not carry with it
Authority but if you are our friend to
the world you’re in a position of
compassion and when you are in a
position of compassion you actually can
bring solution to problems we are not
promised tomorrow so we want our lives
to matter we want each and every day to
be a direction of moving forward and I
know I know you’re a person of prayer
and prayer is amazing and prayer is the
impetus of beginning something but I
also believe that we pray big and we do
big but you start doing big by just a
few steps so we’re gonna challenge you
what are the actions you can take you
know I love Hebrews 11 33 it says
through acts of faith through acts of
Faith they took the promises for
themselves they made Justice work and
they toppled kingdoms there are some
kingdoms that your actions are going to
topple there are some promises that you
can take there are some dynamics of
Injustice that you can counteract with
actions of Justice I want you to think
about those things I want you to write
down those actions I believe that you
are alive in this time without rival yes
there is a world that seems like it is
so filled with problems that are without
rival but you have been positioned out
of all of the periods of time for this
moment because you are our child of God
without rival entrusted with the
promises of God without rival destined
for an eternity without rival equipped
with a weapon without rival the sword of
the spirit which is the word of God
hailing from Nations without rival I
hope you understand that right now this
is a moment without rival you have just
finished this course well done I believe
that you are well equipped to move
forward I believe that you can pray and
you can act in such a way that God is
going to Astound you with a life without
Bible
