Joshua chapter 1 is where I want to go
and just highlight a couple of
scriptures and I’m going to give you
some things that you can take with you
today that I believe will loose you from
the fear particularly of failure the
fear that can hold you back the most the
fear that can stop you from doing what
you were put on this earth to do verse 6
be strong and of good courage for this
people you shall divide as an
inheritance the land which I swore to
the father’s to give them only be strong
and very courageous that you may observe
to do all that I’ve commanded you that
you may prosper wherever you go don’t
let the book of the law depart out of
your mouth then you will make your way
prosperous and you will have good
success verse 9 he’s going to say it
again have I not commanded you be strong
and of good courage do not be afraid nor
be dismayed for the Lord your God is
with you wherever you go in that a great
verse verse 17 just as he heeded Moses
in all things so he will be with you
only the Lord your God be with you as he
was with Moses whoever rebels against
your commandment does not heed your
words and all that you command him shall
be put to death only be strong and of
good courage
it’s like Joshua and the children of
Israel were postured as never before as
never before and I believe that I’m
speaking to people today who are in
transitions and you’re on the brink of
some great things that God has planned
for your life and as they were after
wandering 40 years in the wilderness
about to cross over into the promised
land postured is never before to move
forward there was unleashed against
Joshua a real enemy that is called in
2nd Timothy the spirit of fear for God
has not given us
the spirit of fear but of power and of
love and of a sound mind so God could
have said a lot of things to Joshua at
this transition he could have said
here’s how you preach and here’s 12 tips
to be a great leader here seven things
that you need to teach the people about
being a great people he didn’t do any of
that he said four times in the same
chapter if you’re going to fulfill the
purpose and call that I have on your
life it’s all contingent upon you
getting free from a spirit of fear so
four times he says the same thing be
strong and be of courage and do not be
afraid do not be afraid do not be afraid
only be strong and be very courageous he
knew that if he could stay free from a
spirit of fear stay bold to obey what
God told him to do that he would
continue to win over and over and over
again and that’s why he kept saying to
him be strong be courageous don’t be
afraid fear seeks to paralyze your faith
fierce seeks to stop your destiny every
time he’s commanded you to fear not he
couples it with the greatest promise in
the scripture for I am with you for I am
with you for I am with you the key to
your conquering is locking down on a
bold courageous spirit that says I can
do what God has called me to do and I
can win and no man and no demon and no
circumstance in life can hinder me from
taking the god-ordained ground that he
has called me to take God said to Joshua
four times the same words for four
different reasons
the first time he said it in verse 16
fear not only be strong and very
courageous listen to what he said for
the people’s sake notice that in that
verse be strong and courageous for this
people I have ordained to inherit the
land please understand that when you are
called by God to do something and all of
you are there are people connected to
you overcoming the fear of doing that
thing in other words a lot of people
benefit from it if you do what you’re
supposed to do family friends an
ordained people will go in it’s not just
you going into the promised land Joshua
but if you can be bold and courageous
and overcome your fears and insecurities
if you go in there’s a lot of people
that are connected to you that are going
to enter into things that they’re
supposed to enter into because of your
bold act of courage and fearlessness for
the people’s sake do not fear for your
children for those that are around you
do not fear because if you’re dominated
with fear your children are going to be
dominating the people that are supposed
to connect with you in life they won’t
come they’re going down with you or
they’re going up with you I tell you
when I read that the first time many
years ago that there there are people
who are connected that are depending on
me to overcome my fears and when I
understood that that that if I don’t do
what I’m supposed to do then then the
people that that will only get into
their promised land if I obey God do you
understand the same is true for you in
the destiny in the plan of God and when
I look at this congregation and I see
the people the spirit of fear attacked
me many years ago and said you can’t
pastor a church you don’t you’ve never
passed her to church you don’t know how
to pastor Church and I could have let
that fear stop me but it wasn’t just
about me the fear that I was feeling was
connected to a lot of people fear not
for the people’s sake and then secondly
the second time he says it he says fear
not
for your own sake for I will give you
listen to this good success for I want
to prosper you and give you good success
you he doesn’t just want to use you to
bless other people he wants to bless you
I know the plans I have for you says the
Lord plans of good and not evil to give
you hope Jeremiah and to give you a
future but he says you’ve got to believe
this enough to overcome your fear and
start that business or go to college or
get that education or don’t go through
that opportunity and won’t through that
that open door take that promotion don’t
draw back from it but believe that I can
raise you up and I can do things in you
and through you that can be greater than
anything you can’t imagine so that you
have good success and so that you
prosper for your own sake listen to me
God’s got a lot invested in you he
didn’t bring you to this place to have
you stall out he didn’t get you through
everything you’ve been through the
miracles that he’s worked in your life
to cause you to fail now our God is a
finisher the last three words of our
Savior on the cross was it is finished
the Apostle Paul said I fought a good
fight I finished my course listen to
this verse being confident in this very
thing that he who has begun a good work
in you will perform it until the end
until the day of Jesus Christ he started
something in you and he’s not gonna
bring you this far and let you become a
failure so lose that fear of failure and
say God I can do anything you tell me I
can do and I’m not gonna draw back in
two minute II and fear and worry you’re
either gonna be a warrior are you gonna
be a worrier and you have to decide if
you’re gonna war or you’re gonna worry
you can’t lose if you won’t quit
I wish I could get this in a syringe and
shoot it into your spirit I wish I could
stab it into your veins and shoot you up
some of you been shot up on a lot of
stuff you need the spirit that says I am
bold and of a good courage and I will
not be afraid the day you lose is the
day you shrink back the day you lose is
the day you draw back the day you lose
is the day you say I quit I can’t do
this but as long as the spirit of
courage is there you will move forward
from faith under faith for your sake
God’s invested a lot in you Joshua he’s
put you under Moses you’ve walked
through the wilderness for 40 years he’s
trained you he’s mentored you he’s let
you experience things in life God has a
lot invested in you it’s your time you
can’t be paralyzed with the spirit of
fear at transition the fear of failure
the fear of lack in every major
transition in life there must be a fresh
baptism of courage that says I will
stand up and do it and you know those
first few times that I spoke I was
absolutely terrified but I just kept
doing what I knew and you are moving
forward if you’re if you’re going into
his presence and saying fill me with
boldness fill me with courage break this
fear that’s holding me back Lord let me
do what you call me to do
everything you’ve been through has
brought you to this moment would you
tell somebody that you won’t help me
preach whether you want to or not
turn to somebody and say everything
you’ve been through has brought you to
this moment fear not for the people’s
sake that are connected to your life
that if you get yours they’re gonna get
theirs and fear not for your own sake
coz God believes in you and he’s gonna
prosper you and he’s gonna give you
good success does anybody believe God
loves you enough to prosper and give
good success Tevan you
don’t fear for God wants you to prosper
that’s good news and he wants you to
have good success then thirdly he gives
another reason he says it again only be
thou now that I’ve got you thinking
about people now that I’ve got you
thinking and knowing that I’m for you I
love you I love to see you prosper and I
love to see you succeed but now that you
got that he says it again don’t be
afraid only be courageous and bold why
for the Lord’s sake the
commander-in-chief that’s put you where
you are and let you face the challenges
that you’re facing his reputation is on
the line notice he said be strong and
courageous for the Lord your God is with
you he’s saying it’s not just your name
that’s on the line my name is on the
line my reputation goes with you when
you step out and do what I’ve told you
to do
David had mighty men that were that were
amazing
and these they were called mighty men
because of their amazing feats that they
accomplished for example one of them
named a dino slew 800 men he got between
the crevice of a rocks of two rocks so
that the enemies would have to come in
single file and he killed 800 men in
other words against insurmountable odds
he stood and he fought and he defeated
800 for listings and had you run out
with a microphone and said tell me a
dino how and why in the world did you
fight against insurmountable odds he
would have said because my king told me
to my king put me there and I wasn’t
just fighting for myself I was fighting
for my king for his sake fear not
another one named Ellie a czar one of
David’s mighty men say
indefinable fatigue for the scripture
said he fought until his hand clave to
the sword and they had to pry his
fingers off of the sword he said I stood
there for my king and I fought against
indefinable fatigue and the other one
against insurmountable odds and then
there was another guy who fought for
insignificant reward his name was Shama
and all he fought for was a bean patch
insignificant reward why are you doing
that he would have told you because my
Kings honor is at stake and the king
gave me this assignment and it doesn’t
look like much to you but the king told
me to defend this field appease my king
put me here my King’s honor is at stake
so fear not for the people’s sake fear
not for your own sake fear not for your
Kings sake because he’s he’s put you
there and his name is on the line when
you do what he tells you to do and then
lastly he said fear not for the enemy’s
sake notice what he said
that you’ll have rebels who come against
you but only be strong and courageous
the last time he told him to be strong
and courageous it was connected to
enemies in other words what God is
saying is don’t be afraid fear not for
your enemy’s sake I’m not gonna let you
fail because you’ve got so many people
that hate you you have so many haters
I’m gonna bless you
that’s why david said thou prepares the
table before me in the presence of my
enemies you prepare a table before me in
the presence of my haters one time David
had this guy follow him around and he
threw rocks when David was going through
the hardest time of his life he threw
rocks at him and cursed him and cursed
him and one of David’s mighty men said
if you’ll let me hit him one time I
won’t have to hit him again can I hit
him and David said no leave him alone
this is strange he said it may be that
God will hear him cursing me and put a
blessing on me because he cursed me fear
not for your enemies safe sometimes God
will bless you because so many people
are against you and so many people are
telling you you can’t be anything and do
anything he says I want to bless you and
show your enemy how I can take nobodies
and raise them up and cause them to eat
in the presence of their haters come on
and shout if you believe in a God who
wants you to be free you if you’re going
to do what God has called you to do must
break free from the paralyzing spirit of
fear the disciples were in the boat the
storm came
and they were terrified you may be in
the same condition you may be facing
circumstances that are terrifying we’re
not denying that fear is real we’re not
acting like what there aren’t things
that we should that we should naturally
have a fear against in life but here’s
the deal the boat that Jesus told them
to get in and go to the other side in
was designed to float on the thing they
were afraid of the only reason that a
boat sinks is because what’s on the
outside starts getting on the inside
it’s not that we don’t have things that
we fear but we’re not to let the fear on
the outside get on the inside and I can
tell what’s on the inside of you by
what’s coming out of you for out of the
abundance of the heart the mouth speaks
so what’s in you some of your going
through a storm right now and the boats
that make it over the top of the storms
are the ones that have sealed themselves
off enough to not let what they’re going
through get in the boat get in your
thought life get in your faith get in
your spirit we go through it and we
don’t deny the storm is real but we have
so much of the promises that said you’re
going to the other side I promise you
you’re going to the other side and when
Jesus came walking on the water it’s one
thing to be afraid of the situation but
here comes Jesus walking on the water
and now they’re even more afraid and
terrified they said it’s a ghost they’re
afraid of the solution sometimes we’re
not just afraid of the of the situation
we’re in
we’re equally afraid of the solution
because we it’s just easier to stay
where I am on the boat then get out and
say Lord if you’re out there let me walk
on the water with you sometimes the
solution is more terrifying than the
situation it’s like a man in a burning
building and he runs to the window and
the fires coming coming coming coming
and in the and he looks down ten stories
down and there’s a fireman saying John
will catch you and you have to decide at
the moment at that place most people
freeze they paralyze but here’s the
here’s the key to the story and I’m
closing but listen when Jesus came
walking on the water when Peter saw him
he asked one question Lord is that you
in other words I’m with these guys but
their boat people I’m with them but I
I’m not like them I don’t want a normal
life I don’t want to ride in the boat of
mediocrity the rest of my life and I
don’t want to miss super out
supernatural opportunities because I’m
so comfortable on the boat with all
these boat people so Lord there’s one
question I need to ask is it you that’s
bidding me to come and Jesus gave a
3-fold answer that I want to close with
he said three things number one fear not
number two it is I number three be of
good cheer and watch this he told him
what not to do
don’t be afraid he told him who he was
it is I he told them how to go in to the
challenge cheer up
get excited it’s me there’s only one
question you need to ask Lord
what if I don’t have enough to pay for
Lord what if what if I get out there and
I’ll start sinking Lord what what what
if people start talking about me and
laughing at me Lord that’s not the
question there’s only one question you
need to answer Lord is it you have you
told me to do this did you tell me to
start this business did you tell me to
dream this dream did you tell me to
marry that person did you tell me to do
that’s all you gotta ask and if he told
you then the answer is twofold fear not
and cheer up
because if he said come some I said well
but Peter started sinking and you’re
right he started but he didn’t finish
and some of you may be starting to sink
but you won’t finish sinking because
before you look up you’ll see one
walking on the water coming to see about
you and he’ll reach down his hand and
love will lift you up and he’ll say let
me show you what we can do together when
you trust me without fear but today I
proclaim over your life that in Jesus
name you can be free from the fear that
has been stopping you from crossing into
your destiny and into the plans that God
has for your life how many of you
receive this this morning you don’t have
to be afraid you don’t have to get up
every morning and worry what in the
world is going to happen today I only
tell you something else you don’t have
to fear God and you don’t have to be
afraid of eternity and you don’t have to
be afraid of your sin because Jesus
nailed it to the cross he conquered the
grave hell and death for you and today
you can know his freedom and you need to
hear this message of fear not because he
has he has a plan of redemption and
forgiveness for your life some of your
facing some of the scariest moments of
your life maybe bad reports things have
hit your life turn it all over to Jesus
all of that worry all of that stress all
of that fear David said I sought the
Lord and he delivered me from all of my
fears seek him right now ask him into
your heart say Lord Jesus say these
words Lord Jesus I give you my life
today I receive you as my savior in
Jesus name Amen
